During your pregnancy a doula is a helpful support by giving information to you in order to help you prepare for your upcoming birth.

One way I give you help is going through a birth plan and figuring out what you do and don't want during birth. It helps me when attending the birth in knowing how you would like the birth to go.

In sitting with you we can go through your options on whether you want a hospital, home or water birth and what that means for you and your partner.

Do you know what to include in a birth plan or do you know how to write up one. Does it need to be written or can it be a birth map instead? These different ways of doing up birth plans can be something you have not thought of which is where I come in.

Making sure you are prepared as you can be for the upcoming birth of your baby is also something that we can go through in our meetings before birth.

Sometimes when we plan for a baby it's here that we think oh I have what I need but it's here that the pram or cot are thought about and not the items that are truly needed during your postpartum.

Let me help you prepare for your birth and postpartum so you can hopefully achieve what you want during birth and postpartum.

A new baby can be an exciting time but it can be a scary and daunting for a toddler.

Tips on how to prepare your toddler for your new baby is very important and needs to be planned and thought about well before baby arrives.

Tell your toddler 3-4 months in advance by talking to them about babies in general. You can use a toy or a doll to show them and explain what a baby does. They can cry, get hungry and need sleep. It is good here to explain that mummy will need to do these things for baby as they are too little to do it themselves.

Getting your toddler to choose items for baby can help them feel part of the process of the new arrival. Choosing toys or clothes can make them feel important and still very much wanted, loved and special to you.

Books on being a big sister or brother can also help with pictures on what babies need and how they can help mummy when baby is here. For example getting nappies, wipes or clothes for the baby.

A big one is not changing the environment around the toddler and not making any big changes. If you want to get them into a bed or toliet train them then do this during your first or early second trimesters so the toddler does not associate it with the baby.

You can also help show them what a baby needs by buying a doll or baby and changing baby, feeding with a bottle baby, rocking them to sleep so that your showing them what might happen. You can also show them baby is asleep so now we can do things like painting and reading books during this time.

It is important to prepare your toddler for the upcoming arrival. Just remember postpartum is an adjustment for your toddler or child and that they need time to get used to the new routine and new person taking up alot of your time.

Bathing a baby is one tool most new mums have never done or experienced. A beautiful and special moment to have with your baby.

This is one part of your postpartum that I will help you navigate and show you how to bath your baby if your not aware of what to do.

Temperature and even putting something over the baby as they bath can ensure baby has a beautiful time in the bath and not be screaming or crying which can be distressing for both newborn and new mum.

As your doula I will give you tips on how to bathe your baby, what to use, how often and many tips that you may not of known but sometimes having baby there can be so much more useful than just telling you or giving you an brochure on it.

Let baby experience the wonder of water and let me show you what you need for the bath and how often you need to bathe them. All this and much more can experienced with me as your doula.

It takes a village to raise a child but you may also ask where is this village??

As a doula I often have mums asking me so where does this village come from. How do I get a village. To be honest I got my village of people who I know I can message late, call if I need help or an extra pair of hands a bit late during my postpartum.

A village is made up of other mums, resources and professionals that you can access anytime. It can come in the form of friends, family and medical professionals. You just need to know who to go to.

Alot of times I scrambled to find answers, recourses and help when I needed it most. If I am your doula I will give you a range of tips, resources and help guides for you to have handy for the first few weeks with your new baby. I will also help you set up your village.

It can be tough but with the right people in your corner and by your side the postpartum time does not need to feel isolated or lonely. Sometimes all you need is a hug or a person to just help you along the way.

If you want to work together to make your postpartum time a beautiful and supportive time then I would love to work with you. Send me a DM and we can have a chat about what support you need.

World Breastfeeding week!!

When I had my daughter I breastfed her but my journey was not an easy one. I was very lucky with the fact I didn't experience mastitis but I had over supply. It hurt so much as I was engorged and in tears due to the pain. I know it was awful for me and I had to constantly manually pump off some to feel a little relief.

The picture here is of my daughter asleep after a feed with regular size breasts. I never took photos of them engorged as I was too embarrassed on how big they got. I would have to cool them down with ice packs so the pain would ease looking back I had no knowledge if doing this was correct it just helped.

I also struggled with feeding as I didn't love it. Don't get me wrong I loved that I was feeding my baby but it was extremely hard. I wondered why does she have reflux and colic and why is she constantly screaming afterwards.

A food intolerance baby which I learned out later in our journey. I cried and cried because I knew she was not okay and I didn't know why. I really struggled and wish I had gotten more postpartum support. To say my breastfeeding time was beautiful would be a lie and I'm not here to sugar coat this.

Breastfeeding is hard but you can make it beautiful with support, the right professionals and knowledge on how to breastfeed, what to do if issues arise and where to go for help.

Breast milk is liquid gold....It knows when baby is sick to make antibodies for them. It can help cuts, cracked ni***es, conjunctivitis as well as comforting and nourishing your baby.

So if your pregnant, had a baby or nearing the end of breastfeeding...Say thank you to your b***s for being the best thing ever. For those who could not breastfeed don't feel bad or beat yourself up your awesome too Mama.

You might think what exactly does a postpartum doula do? We are here to support mum but it is so much more than this too.

A postpartum doula is someone who comes to your home and helps support mum in any way that she needs help.

It can be washing dishes, folding laundry or holding baby while mum sleeps or takes a shower. Bringing hot meals or having them delivered to mum while she focuses on bonding with baby and breastfeeding.

It is a range of things that is tailored to suit the mother who is needing support after having a baby. As your postpartum doula I support my mums in also showing them if they don't know how to bathe baby, breastfeeding tips and sleep help. It is here that we find a village for mum to help her find support during all hours.

When you get pregnant there is so much focus around that time that there is little to no support or focus on the other things a baby needs. Feeding, sleep and how to take care of a baby is some of the things some mums do not look into until they need to do these things. Getting help from a doula can make it easier to help you navigate your way through this time.

Postpartum depression can be a very real and very scary experience for a new mum. It is during postpartum that a woman will be coping with being a new mum and looking after a newborn.

My tips for getting through the fourth trimester where it seems the most adjustment takes place is below and only a few ideas that might make it easier to get through and to feel supported:

* Make sure you have enough support around you to support your mental health, as this can be the time that postpartum depression may occur.

* Ask for help if you need it, especially if you're struggling with feeding, sleep, or baby is unsettled. Do not feel that your feelings on anything related to yourself or your baby are insignificant.

*Make a plan for your postpartum. Write down exactly who will be doing what. Food to be organised in the freezer by who, cleaning to be done, shopping or even who will bathe baby and what you can delegate to others. Write it down.

*Make sure you are resting, eating properly, and setting time aside for yourself, too, as this is important in all aspects. If nutrition is poor or you're too stressed, then it may affect your milk production.

The most important thing is that you feel if you are experiencing postpartum depression or feeling overwhelmed by being a new mum that you speak with your doula who will most likely tell you to see your GP and get a referral to see a qualified psychologist who can assist you. You do not need to feel like you are alone

If your looking to conceive, pregnant already, giving birth soon or want someone postpartum then I might be the doula for you.

I often get asked how will people book with you. I want you all to know that I offer a FREE chat via zoom, facebook or in person to see if we are the right fit for each other.

Picking a doula is very personal decision and can sometimes take you awhile to find the right person that you feel fits with what you want in your birth room or postpartum.

Once you meet with me and you want to work together please feel free to message me or email to let me know that you would love me to be your doula.

I will send you a few things that you need to fill in such as the intake form. I will then meet with you again to go through this and also your birth plan. If you would prefer to fill in the intake in person I can do this too.

So it's that simple. Book a FREE chat with me and we go from there. So if you want to see if I'm your doula then send me a DM or email me. All package info is in the link in my bio.
