👣 How to better look after your feet as you get older so you get many comfortable years exploring the wonderful walks around Adelaide. As we age, our feet go through a lot - thinner skin, reduced circulation, and more wear and tear from years of use. But a little regular care can make a big difference to your comfort and mobility.

Simple habits like keeping your nails trimmed, moisturising daily, wearing supportive shoes, and checking your feet for changes can help prevent bigger issues down the track.

If you’re noticing pain, changes in your feet, or just want peace of mind, it’s always worth getting them checked.

At Sanders Podiatry, we’re here to help you stay comfortable, active, and confident on your feet at every stage of life.

Are your feet just tired… or is it something more? 👣

We all get sore feet from time to time – especially after long days, exercise, or being on the go. But when that discomfort keeps coming back, it could be more than just fatigue.

One of the most common conditions we see is plantar fasciitis – and it often starts off feeling like “just tired feet.”

So how can you tell the difference?

👉 Tired feet usually ease with rest
👉 Plantar fasciitis often causes sharp heel pain, especially first thing in the morning or after sitting

Ignoring the early signs can lead to ongoing pain and longer recovery time. If your feet are trying to tell you something, it’s worth listening.

💬 Not sure what you’re dealing with? We’re here to help.

• Swelling around the joint
• Difficulty wearing certain shoes

The good news is that many of these injuries can be prevented with the right footwear, training habits and early care.

❤️ Healthy Feet, Healthy Heart – They’re More Connected Than You Think. Your feet can reveal important clues about your heart health.

Poor circulation, cold feet, numbness, slow healing wounds, or swelling can sometimes be early signs that something deeper is happening in the body. Because your feet are the furthest point from your heart, they are often one of the first places where circulation issues appear.

That’s why looking after your feet isn’t just about comfort – it’s about overall health.

👣 Regular foot checks can help detect issues early
🩺 Healthy circulation supports both foot and heart health
🚶‍♀️ Staying active helps keep blood flowing properly

If you’ve noticed changes in your feet or ongoing discomfort, it may be time for a professional check.

At Sanders Podiatry, we look beyond the surface to help keep your feet – and your health – moving in the right direction.

👣🤰Don’t forget about your feet if you're pregnant. From swelling and arch changes to heel pain and balance shifts, it’s common for mums to notice their feet feeling the additional weight as their pregnancy progresses.

Here are a few things every pregnant mum should know:

• Hormones can loosen ligaments, affecting foot structure
• Your arches may flatten, leading to aches and pains
• Swelling can change your shoe size
• Supportive footwear really matters
• Ongoing pain is not something you just have to “put up with”

Most foot discomfort during pregnancy can be managed with the right advice, support and care.

If your feet are feeling tired, sore or swollen, we’re here to help you stay comfortable and supported through every stage.

Do I need orthotics? 👣✨ It’s one of the most common questions we hear in clinic – and the answer isn’t always a simple yes or no.

If you’re dealing with:
👣 Heel pain
🏃‍♀️ Shin splints
🦵 Knee discomfort
😣 Arch pain
⚡ Ongoing foot fatigue

… your feet may not be getting the support they need.

Custom orthotics are designed to improve alignment, reduce strain and help your body move more efficiently. But they’re not for everyone. The right solution might be better footwear 👟, strengthening exercises 💪, or tailored orthotic support made specifically for you.

At Sanders Podiatry, we assess your foot structure, walking pattern and lifestyle before recommending anything – so you get the right support, not just a quick fix.

If you’re unsure, a professional assessment can give you clarity and confidence.

Summer usually means people are more active without thinking much about it. More time outdoors, extra walking on holidays, longer days on your feet, and more time in thongs or barefoot means your feet have to cope with additional strain more than they normally would compared to cooler months.

In our latest blog, we share the most common foot problems we treat after the warmer months, including:

• Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
• Stress fractures
• Achilles tendon pain
• Cracked heels and skin infections
• Forefoot pain from unsupportive footwear

If your feet are starting to complain now that routine is back, don’t ignore it. Early treatment means faster recovery and less disruption to your work, sport and daily life.

🏋️‍♀️ The forgotten foundation at the gym? Your feet. 🦶You can smash your workouts, track your reps, fuel your body… but if your feet aren’t supported, everything above them pays the price.

At the gym, your feet bear the brunt of:

👉High impact loading
👉Repetitive movements
👉Tight shoes and sweaty environments

Over time, that can lead to heel pain, arch strain, blisters, nail issues and injuries that can have a long term impact.

A few simple habits make a big difference:
👟 Wear shoes suited to your workout, not just what looks good
🧼 Keep feet clean and dry to prevent skin and nail problems
🦵 Stretch calves and feet before and after sessions
⚠️ Don’t push through foot pain – it’s a warning sign, not weakness

Strong training starts from the ground up. Look after your feet and they’ll carry you further, longer, and pain-free.
