Zan Maeder Doula

Zan Maeder Doula Trauma informed doula and counsellor on Kaurna land. Providing virtual and face to face support. Hi there,

I'm Zan. So please get in touch!

I'm currently studying with the Australian Doula College and am ready to jump in to supporting folks as they navigate transitions through conception, pregnancy, birth, becoming parents and growing families. Why might you want to work with a student doula? Everyone deserves continuity of care through their pregnancy, birth and post-partum experience. Student doulas can be one of the most accessible options. Students with the Australian Doula College are rigorously trained. We are also provided 24/7 support by experienced doulas as we step out and begin supporting families. Student Doula services are available for a fraction of the cost and you can guarantee a student doula like myself is going to go above and beyond in supporting you because we're passionate and eager to learn. For $450 I will provide
• 3 visits before your birth
• I will be 'on call' two weeks either side of your due date and available by phone 24/7 during this time
• Support for you and your partner during your labour and birth
• 2 postnatal visits

If you are financially marginalised, I may still be able to support you for a reduced cost or no cost through the Australian Doula College's Doula Heart Network. About me

I deeply care about supporting families through the major transitions involved in becoming parents and growing families. Few people are ever supported enough through these experiences. Conceiving, carrying and birthing my first bub has consolidated my passion for all things pregnancy and birth related. I have spent my career working with and supporting people in mental health, s*xual assault, youthwork services and currently as a narrative therapist (counsellor). I am highly skilled in meeting folks where they're at and supporting them on their own terms. I bring these diverse skills to my new work as a doula. Intersectional feminism and my experience as a q***r person provide me a lens through which to examine and resist the operations of power within pregnancy, birth and parenting spaces. These forces particularly impact the experience of black, brown, fat, q***r, gender non-conforming, poor, neurodiverse and differently abled women and birthing people. It is a core part of my practice to centre the lived experience of everyone I work with and to make visible and celebrate resistance. I would be humbled by an invitation to walk alongside you on your unique journey. If you'd like to chat more, get in touch for a free no obligation meet and greet. I live and practice on the lands of the Kaurna people of the red kangaroo dreaming. The sovereignty of this land has never been ceded and Kaurna people have sustained connection with this country for tens of thousands of years in spite of colonisation. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

Looking forward to running a Rainbow Family Making workshop with Rainbow Families Switchboard next Tuesday Eve!

Having babies in q***r families is often not straightforward. How do we do it? Where do we go? How much will it cost? Who will carry the baby? Will we be supported? No matter our anatomy, we often need to consider questions cis-het families do not. But having to write our own scripts of family also provides opportunity for us to reflect deeply on our hopes, beliefs, partnerships and support structures in ways that better prepare us for the kaleidoscopic journey of parenting.

This online workshop will introduce pathways for baby making in q***r families and prompt you to explore the values, resources and preferences that might inform how you begin the journey. The main of the workshop focus will be conception of babies, we won't cover in detail processes of adoption or fostering.

Welcome to the Rainbow Families Workshop Series 1/2023
