Caring for a child with PDAπŸ’•

This is the voice of a child living with PDA and high anxiety.

A child who wants to do the right thing β€” but whose nervous system goes into threat when demands feel overwhelming.

Behaviour like avoidance, refusal, or shutdown is not a lack of care or effort.
It is anxiety, fear, and a body trying to stay safe.

When we shift from pressure to connection, from control to collaboration, everything changes.

SECOND CHANCE SUNDAY - resharing the posts you resonated with, in case you missed it first time round.

If after-school meltdowns, tears, irritability, or shutdowns feel more intense right now, you’re not imagining it. The Christmas term is one of the most demanding times of the year for children β€” extra noise, rehearsals, excitement, changes to routine, sensory overload, and social pressure all increase the strain on their nervous system.

Today’s visual breaks down what after-school restraint collapse actually is and why it shows up so strongly at home, with the people who feel safest. When we understand what’s happening beneath the behaviour, it becomes far easier to respond with empathy instead of frustration.

If you need scripts, strategies, and step-by-step support to make after-school transitions calmer and more connected, the full After School Restraint Collapse Toolkit is available via the link in the comments below ⬇️ or through the Linktree Shop in Bio.

Do you notice after-school behaviour change more during the Christmas build-up?

Co-regulation isn’t just for kidsβ€”it’s a lifelong skill. πŸ’›
When we learn to calm with our children, we’re not only helping them through tough moments, we’re teaching them how to feel safe, connected, and eventually regulate on their own.

Whether you’re the parent or the child, this is something we can all benefit fromβ€”no matter our age.

March 17-23 is !

It’s a time to recognise and celebrate the unique strengths and perspectives of neurodivergent people.

Neurodivergence is a word that describes people whose brain is thought to work differently to typical (neurotypical) people. Some common forms of neurodivergence include:

- Autism
- ADHD
- Tourette Syndrome
- Dyslexia
- Dyscalculia
- Dysgraphia and Dyspraxia
- Developmental Coordination Disorder

Not everyone takes on information in the same way, which is why it's important for all of us to be aware of who we are chatting with and think about the best way for us to make them feel heard and supported.

Working alongside the Su***de Response Project, we’ve developed resources on how to have an R U OK? conversation with your neurodivergent friends, family members and colleagues who might be struggling with life's ups and downs.
