••BLOOD / XUE••

Blood in Chinese Medicine is viewed differently to modern medicine. It is a vital substance and system within our body that relates more to volume, fluidly and quality.✨

Blood is understood to be a deep feminine force in the body. It is considered a vehicle for Qi and an understanding of Blood includes this idea that blood carries inherent energy🌿

~ nourishes the body by flowing throughout the vessels, organs, and channels.

~ provides flexibility and moisture to the body’s tissues.

~ as a Yin-substance, blood is dense, fluid, and lubricating: it prevents tissues/joints from drying out.

~ supports & anchors the Shen, our consciousness.

The Stomach and the Spleen are essential Organs in the production of Blood and its healthy functions. Organs are spelt with a capital O because they are different to the physical organs that we know… they are an entire holistically energetic system working together.

Blood Deficiency (Xu) is extremely common in todays society of depleted and exhausted women.

There are many types of Blood Xu - for example if you have Heart Blood Xu you may also experience anxiety & heart palpitations. Where as Liver Blood Xu can manifest with insomnia & depression.

Feel free to get in contact if you have any further questions ❤️

••BLOATING••

In Chinese Medicine (CM) bloating is often seen as a sign of IMBALANCE in the body, particularly related to the digestive system.

It is a symptom of an underlying disharmony and the first culprits that we look into are the Spleen, Stomach and Liver organ system. ✨

Just remember that these are FUNCTIONAL systems and not necessary relating to the ORGAN itself. ☝🏼

Bloating can indicate that the bodies energy is not flowing smoothly causing stagnation or accumulation of undigested food and fluids. This leads to discomfort, fullness and sometimes severe pain.😓

Bloating can result from various factors such as poor diet, weak digestion, excess cold or heat in the body or stagnation of Qi.

Consuming excessive cold or raw foods, irregular eating habits, stress or emotional imbalances can disrupt the proper functioning of the digestive system contributing to bloating.

Making dietary adjustments such as consuming warm, easily digestible foods, avoiding cold or raw foods and eating regular, smaller meals can be helpful.

Herbal remedies, acupuncture, acupressure and lifestyle changes like stress management and mindful eating (chewing slowly!) can also help alleviate bloating!🌿

The following slides are just some examples of patterns that may have bloating as a symptom. There is many more!

** It is normal for women to NOT have a completely flat stomach. We constitutionally have more fat in our lower abdomen to protect our reproductive organs!!💕 A little ‘pooch’ is fine. Fibroids, endometriosis, PCOS, adenomyosis and other conditions can also cause bloating, swelling and inflammation (blood/phlegm stasis).

Does acupuncture hurt and is it safe?

Acupuncture is safe when performed by a registered practitioner. The needles are disposable, pre-sterilised and individually packaged.

Regulars of acupuncture often describe it as a surprisingly relaxing experience, due to the endorphins release.✨

The needles are hair thin and some report feeling a slight quick pinch, whilst others don’t feel a thing!

Often, the needles are stimulated to achieve a De Qi effect—a sensation that feels like warmth, tingling, or mild pressure. It's a sign that the energy is flowing and your body is responding positively!🌼

Your experience can vary especially during various phases of your menstrual cycle or times of stress. Sensations may differ reflecting the dynamic nature of your body’s energy.

The needles are swiftly inserted and often go unnoticed.

The magic lies in the subtle yet powerful effects it has on attuning your system.✨🙏🏼

Constipation and skin health are linked in Chinese Medicine (CM) through the Yin/Yang pairs of the Large Intestine and the Lungs.

The skin is viewed as an external reflection of internal health and disruptions in the digestive system, like constipation, can result in various skin problems.

When the digestive system is sluggish, the body may struggle to effectively eliminate waste, leading to a buildup of toxins. This stagnant energy can impact the overall flow of Qi, affecting different network systems, including the Lungs and Large Intestine.

According to CM theory, the Lungs are associated with the skin, and any disturbance in Lung Qi can be reflected in skin conditions. Constipation disrupting the smooth flow of Qi may contribute to skin issues such as acne, eczema, or a dull complexion.

Moreover, the Large Intestine plays a crucial role in waste elimination, and when it functions inadequately, it can lead to the accumulation of heat and dampness in the body, potentially worsening skin problems.

Constipation is a such a common complaint in my clinic and many clients have endured it for years that they think it’s a normal part of life! We can address it through acupuncture and herbal medicine to ensure that your body is functioning optimally✨

This realisation emerged during a conversation with a patient who is also a business owner and she mentioned that on social media we are unconsciously expected to be educators.

It seems as though consistency in posting establishes credibility and keeps your audience engaged, fostering a connection which leads to potential growth.

Business owners are increasingly seen as educators and in reality we really aren’t and to be honest I personally don’t want to be - it’s often exhausting!

Don’t get me wrong I do have moments that spark a particular post that I’m eager to share with everyone but regardless creating content isn’t easy. Especially with Chinese Medicine as we are governed by so many regulations and are restricted to what we can and can’t post. It’s also difficult to give generalised advice as five people could come with the same issue but my treatment approach would vary accordingly to their underlying imbalances.

Although most of my patients come from word of mouth, social media is still a huge part of my practice and client base. Potential clients want to check you out before they meet you to ease something inside them, right? I personally do that myself so I get it.

To those navigating the challenges of this digital realm and occasionally feeling overwhelmed—hang in there, I hear you! 😅 Thank you to everyone who posts good s**t so I can re-share haha.

Feeling worse before you feel better is something which is experienced in many different modalities✨

🌸Have you ever been to the counsellor and it’s stirred up lots of emotions that you actually felt worse?

🌸Have you ever taken a supplement that’s made your symptoms worse?

🌸Have you received acupuncture and pain/symptoms or headaches flared up?

🌸How about using a new skin care product and you start breaking out?

Whilst it doesn’t always occur with everyone it can be a common occurrence that sometimes feels alarming😬

For example sometimes if a women has painful, clotting periods with a diagnosis of blood stasis and she begins a new formula to activate and move blood then her following period might be more painful initially because as the stagnation moves, pain occurs.

However, if you don’t experience a flare up, it doesn’t mean your treatment isn’t affective especially because we are all so different and respond in different ways.

Make sure you always consult with your practitioner if you are experiencing something you are unsure of and they will do what they can to make the process as comfortable as possible 💕

Intermittent fasting (IF) is a dietary approach that involves alternating periods of fasting and eating. When done correctly it can have benefits for people including weight management and improving metabolic health, however, may not be suitable for women!

✨Hormonal disruption: Fasting can potentially disrupt hormonal balance in women. Increasing cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and negatively influencing reproductive hormones. Elevated stress hormones can lead to sleep disturbances, anxiety, and other problems.

✨Fertility and pregnancy: Women who are trying to conceive, pregnant, or breastfeeding should approach fasting with caution. Inadequate calorie intake during these periods can negatively impact fertility, fetal development and lactation.

✨ Energy and nutrient needs: Extended fasting without proper planning can lead to nutrient deficiencies and low energy levels.

✨Psychological impact: Can be mentally challenging and may lead to an unhealthy relationship with food for some individuals. Women, in particular, may be more prone to developing disordered eating patterns or exacerbating existing issues

✨Impact on Stomach & Spleen: In Chinese Medicine these systems are crucial for the digestion and transformation of food into Qi and Blood. They thrive on being in sync with the natural cycles of our internal body clock and love routine. Irregular eating patterns can place stress on these systems causing weakness, dampness, digestive imbalances and blood deficiency.

Of course, fasting isn’t always bad and has its place for a quick reset especially in the spring time or if have a case of food stagnation.

Chinese medicine wisdom suggests “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper”. This indicates that skipping dinner or going light in dinner can be beneficial, compared to missing breakfast!!

••SIMPLE MORNING ROUTINE••

Guys, morning routines are seriously the best!! It really sets you up for the day and makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something. Having a good morning makes the day feel way less chaotic.

I know there’s people promoting a million things to do in the morning but it’s not attainable and can be overwhelming.

My main things to BEGIN with are the following;

✨ DON’T use your phone for at least 1 hour
✨ HYDRATE
✨Eat a WARM, big, protein rich breakfast
✨Expose eyes to natural sunlight or red light device (open your blinds, get outside for at least 5 minutes)
