You don’t need to wear 6 sweaters to keep warm this winter, just follow these simple tips:

✔️ Wear a beanie and a scarf as heat escapes from your head and neck.
✔️ Wear extra layers, particularly clothes made from wool or cotton.
✔️ Wear slippers or socks at home to keep feet warm.
✔️ Keep moving even when indoors.
✔️ Check on your older family, friends and neighbours to make sure they are warm and well.

What is flu? 🤕🤒😷🤧🤮

Influenza or 'flu' is a highly contagious infection caused by the influenza virus. The virus is spread when an infected person talks, coughs or sneezes small droplets into the air, where they may be breathed in by people nearby. Infection may also be spread by contact with contaminated hands, tissues and other infected articles. 😫😤🥴

Flu infection can cause serious illness and complications, especially in young children, pregnant women and older people. Infection can be more severe when people have other existing medical conditions, such as diabetes, breathing or heart problems. Flu infection causes hospital stays and deaths every year. After the vaccination, it is still possible to get flu but it will usually be much milder. 👵🧔‍♂️👨‍🦲👩👦🧑‍🦱👱‍♀️🤰🤱

Why have the flu vaccine? 💪
The flu vaccine helps your body to develop immunity without you getting the flu. The flu vaccine contains several inactivated strains to protect against the most commonly circulating
flu viruses each year. 💉💊🩺🩻

❌ MYTH! ❌- You CANNOT get the flu from the flu vaccine because it does not contain any live flu virus.

The Childhood Immunisation Schedule outlines the recommended vaccines for your child from birth to age 4. These are available free to children under the National Immunisation Program. 😣💉

This helps to protect them from the most serious childhood infections, some of which may threaten their lives. 🤮🤧😷🤒🤢🤕

There are extra vaccines recommended for some children who are more at risk. You should talk to your GP to see if they recommend your child get these vaccines.

Children with certain medical conditions are eligible for additional vaccines for free such as pneumococcal and meningococcal. Speak to your GP to see if your child requires additional vaccines.
