Today on our way home we knew we had to call into the fabulous Orrorro (SA) butcher to buy some more meat. Check out these beautiful porterhouse steaks cut to the thickness we requested. Grant always asks how thick would you like them.

We went to a fundraiser at Carrieton the night before the rodeo and as soon as we heard the steaks were from the Orrorro butcher it was a no brainer as to what we were ordering, they didn't disappoint.

So if you are in the area and need to buy some meat we can recommend the Orrorro butcher and get some great country friendly service from Grant at the same time.

We bought the porterhouse but the rump steak looked pretty good. He even offered to cryovac all of our meat for us too, great friendly service. Thank you Grant

We had a great night at the Carrieton rodeo again for new year's eve. We've also decided to stay another night maybe two, as it's so relaxing at the Carrieton caravan park.

Yesterday we arrived at Carrieton caravan park in SA. Carrieton is located at the base of the Flinders Ranges and we will be here for 5 nights or so depending on the weather.

To keep cool apart from our trusty fans we are putting our feet in a doggy wadding pool as it's 36Β° here at the moment.

Also just a side note you can't buy petrol or diesel at Orrorro at the moment. You can get petrol and diesel at the Carrieton community general store which is also well stocked with lots of groceries etc if needed. Otherwise the next town is Hawker about 70 or 80 kilometres away and it's a bit more expensive there.

Carrieton Caravan Park (SA) Trip Dec 2025 :

Hi everyone, we have been missing in action on this page for a while but hope everyone is well and ready for the silly Xmas season which is already upon us way too quickly. We did do a trip to the UK, mainly Scotland (Scott’s homeland) and Europe for a couple of months this year, catching up with family members and doing a Mediterranean cruise which was fantastic.

Anyway we are heading up to the lovely Carrieton caravan park on the 28 December and leave there on the 2 January, not sure where we are headed after that just yet. The rodeo is on again on New Year’s Eve. We went to the 70th anniversary last year and enjoyed it, so we thought we might go up there again this year to catch up with some friends from Carrieton.

Weather permitting Scott will be available to do some massages while we are there too if anyone is interested.

We stayed in Coober Pedy for one night and then hit the Oodnadatta track.

Down the track we saw a lady stopped on the side of the road emptying out her boot. On a closer look she had a flat tyre. Out of respect I didn't post a photo as I didn't ask for her permission .

Scott offered to help her and she accepted his offer to help change her tyre. He turned around to walk and get some tools from his car and realised that we had a flat tyre also. We had about 3 other cars pass and they all stopped to make sure everyone was fine, which was a lovely feeling.

We then went to William Creek and had a refreshment at the pub. It was full of business cards on the ceiling and other bits and pieces too. Scott said years ago you paid $5 to place your business cards on the ceiling and the money went to the Royal Flying Doctors. The flies were extremely friendly here too.

We then went on to stay at Coward Springs which is a very quirky and Eco friendly caravan park. The sites are scattered around in the bushland so you don't really have anyone right next to you. The 2 showers are heated up once a day for an afternoon shower. There are also only 2 mens and 2 ladies toilets, so it helps if you are self sufficient with your own caravan. There is a natural spa here also and lots of date palms that were planted years ago in the Afghan Cameleer days. The owners make lots of items with the dates, eg icecream, scones, biscuits, relishes etc. that they sell in their little shop.

The scenery on the Oodnadatta track is once again very different to some of my other posts.

Safe travels everyone

We left Alice Springs yesterday morning and parked on the border last night in a roadside rest area with 3 other caravans and a couple of guys swagging it in their swags.

On the way we stopped at Kulgera to fill up with fuel.
I've taken a few snap shots of the clothesline with hanging boots and all the bras hanging in the pub part of the Roadhouse for you to have a giggle at.

Today we did a big drive of 420kms to Coober Pedy. You can see how the landscape changes dramatically over the kilometres. From green and bushy scrubland to sparse grasses on red dirt.

Then as we approach Coober Pedy you can see where they are mining for opals with all the white mullock heaps everywhere.

The last few days might not be as pretty as the Daintree river and rainforest photos in FNQ I have put up in past posts, but still spectacular in their own right.

Safe travels everyone and keep enjoying this wonderful land of ours.

We crossed into NT a couple of days ago and our first stop was the Barkly Homestead Roadhouse which has space for about 80 caravans and cabins too if just travelling by car. We stayed on the huge grassed area. We had a fabulous lunch there, the Barkly burger with chips, so filling that we didn't have dinner that night. Lots of bird life there also and another swimming pool, but we didn't use it. The Roadhouse itself is huge with lots of modern souvenir type items to buy.

We then stopped at Tennant Creek to do a shop as no fruit and vegetables allowed over the border. The town made me very sad seeing how they live there.

We did a big drive about 400kms to the Devils Marbles Hotel. Had a drink there but stayed across the road with about 10 other caravans.

We did go for a drive through and checked out the devils marbles along the way. They were amazing.

We are finding that the landscapes in Australia change from nothing either side to scrubland to trees. Along the way we are also seeing so many termite mounds everywhere.

We have just spent 2 days in the discovery caravan park in Alice Springs just for a rest from driving and to regroup ourselves. There are also the beautiful Australian Ringneck birds here again and they are so tame they come right up to you and will sit on your hand.

We will travel again tomorrow and stay just this side of the NT border to finish up our fruit and vegetables again. That's something you have to be wary of when travelling to not buy too much because of the strict border regulations.

We have just spent two glorious days and nights at Camooweal Billabong Qld free camping on the side of the billabong taking in the beautiful waterlilies, birds and butterflies.

The bird life was fantastic, there were eagles in nests with their young, hawks, pelicans gliding over the water, magpies, coots, dancing brolgas and other birds also but I don't know the names of them.

On the down side there were also flies, and at night there were mozzies and lots of bugs to try and keep out of the caravan.

Some lovely sunsets and sunrises too while we were there..

Please keep safe on the roads everyone as Easter comes to an end. πŸ¦©πŸ¦†πŸ¦œπŸ¦πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ¦…
