Last month, I had the privilege of presenting The Power of Patient Rapport: Why Connection is the Cornerstone of Clinical Success.

I spoke about how:
🤝 Rapport is the foundation of trust and retention. Building it requires us to draw upon a few different strategies like motivational interviewing and inviting the patient to tell their story...
🪜 Challenges in practice often stem from disconnection, not treatment failure
🧠 Practical strategies can shift conversations and deliver impactful results, which brings forth lifelong trust and fulfilment
👥️ Strong connection sustains both patient outcomes and clinician career longevity
😮‍💨 We also discussed some very evidenced-backed ways to prevent compassion fatigue and subsequent burnout in and outside of practice!

Happy National Dermal Clinicians Day! Just a shoutout to my wonderful colleagues and connections I have made in the industry, for all the support we have been to eachother in bringing greater awareness to what we do!

Today we can reflect about improvement we have made to the lives of our patients through transforming their skin, managing their conditions and improving their post-procedural outcomes.

Skin restoration. Barrier Comfort.

Lately I have been putting extra-effort in restoring my skin back to it's former glory after experiencing massive skin changes.

Things that could be contributing to a deficient and compromised barrier in winter (or ever) include:

-💦🧱 Hard water:
This is a big one! Especially in SA and areas that use hard water, the most sustainable way to manage this is invest in changing your shower filter, you can now buy shower filters that treat the water and add nutrients, however, the science behind the addition of nutrients is still up for grabs.

-🌦🌞Seasonal-switches:
Double check you are using products that are suitable for you skin now, not last season, and not when your skin was looking great in your early 20's - treat the condition of how your skin is behaving today.

-🧘‍♂️🙏Patience is a virtue:
One key thing I mention to my patients is patience (see what I did there). Managing and releasing held expectations prior to commencing treatment is very important.
When playing the waiting game for your skin to find its balance, putting extra stress on yourself and missing the little wins can have a great impact on how you perceive your is improving.
Take it slow, the addition of stress can wreak-havoc on your results! Trust the process.

Attending an dinner at city with .

It's very rewarding to see the people I did my dermal degree with fitting into their industry roles so perfectly.

I believe everyone has their particular calling within the skin industry, whether it be training and education, brand representatives, business development, consulting, cosmetic chemistry, starting their own business, working in plastics and surgical, dermatology, or dermatoscopy.

The options are many, and it's inspiring seeing so many of my colleagues find their perfect fit 😁.

Let's talk Rosacea. Rosacea can present in many different forms and currently, there are four types of Rosacea:

😳 Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea, aka persistent redness and is characterised by enlarged blood vessels that are likely to flare. Over time the redness can cover more areas of skin and darken with increased presence of vessels.

😳 +🌋 Papulopustular Rosacea, aka Acne Rosacea. This presents with small pustules across the rosacea affected areas with increased facial flushing. These particular blemishes have a slow turnaround time and are painful.

👃Phymatous Rosacea, aka Rosacea that causes a thickening of the external nasal tissue - Rhinophyma. This is more common in men than in women and commonly presents later on in life.

and finally...

👁 Ocular Rosacea, aka eye Rosacea. This type of Rosacea primarily affects the eyes, causing them to look red and bloodshot and can lead to dryness and sensitivity.

Rosacea can be successfully treated by a Dermatologist, Dr, Nurse and Dermal Clinicians, both in Clinic and with prescribed home skincare. Sometimes a multidisciplinary approach is necessary for treatment success.

Hi All, in April we celebrate all things rosacea for .

✨️Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that affects approximantely 5.5% of the worlds population.

✨️This month we aim to bring awareness to a condition that leaves sufferer's feeling insecure and stigmatized about their condition - all year long.

✨️My ultimate goal as a Dermal Clinician is to provide clinical treatment and advice to my patients who have rosacea, and to enable my patients to remain and , even when things get hard.

The month of April is Rosacea Awareness Month, a condition more common than you may think! Rosacea can be managed collaboratively with Dermatologists, Nurse Practitioners and Dermal Clinicians.
