It’s the Friday before Christmas!

We cancelled work at Hindmarsh today and instead opted to host a Christmas party! With movies, karaoke, skittles, even a glittery photo wall!

The party lasted 4 hours, jam packed with non-stop fun for the entire team, plus, a catered lunch!

It’s been a busy day of fun, joy and laughter, and we’ve got plenty of photos to share!

While our Hindmarsh site isn’t officially closing over the Christmas break, many of our team are taking a break for the holidays!

So, we’d like to take this time to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Today, across the whole of mobo, every team came together to announce the winner of our annual Tina Hetherington Memorial Award.

Tina was a beloved employee of mobo who sadly passed away in 2018. In memoriam of her, this annual award was created to celebrate and recognise the ongoing hard work, dedication and good character of our Employees.

This year, our runner up was Justin Hill – from Salvage & Save Windmill Hill.

Justin approaches all tasks with great enthusiasm, professionalism and pride. He shows strong initiative and positively influences and motivates the team through his determination and great attitude. He leads by example, taking accountability for his performance, output, actions, independence and personal growth. He plays a key role in upskilling and supporting his peers in training – in fact he was one of the first of the Windmill Hill team to obtain a Test and Tag Licence.

And finally, our winner of the 2025 Tina Hetherington Memorial Award is...

🥁🥁

David Hall - Oakden

David is an excellent team player, who always goes above and beyond at work. He is compassionate towards his co-workers, always prepared to assist and support the team, while also bringing great enthusiasm and humour to the workplace. David takes great pride in his work, always acts with genuine care, and is glad to multi-task or take on more challenging jobs without the need for instruction. He excels in his talents for machine operation tasks and manual handling, as well as in consistent demonstration of our ICARE Values.

David is truly an amazing asset to the Oakden team and more than worthy of being named the Tina Hetherington Memorial Award Winner for 2025.

Join us in sending a congratulations and well done to both Justin and David!

It's been a busy start to the Christmas season with our Enterprise teams participating in three Christmas pageants in 3 weekends!

Just this weekend, on the 13th of December, our Salvage & Save Goolwa and South Coast Firewood & Gardens team participated in the Victor Harbor Christmas Pageant.

The event was a huge success – apparently one of the largest Victor Harbor pageants on record, with the streets filled with spectators. We had a combined team of 15 people walk in the pageant, including a few family members of our staff helping us out on the day!

Our moboMade gingerbread house also made its third appearance at the pageant – learn more about it from our recent News Story linked here: https://mobo.org.au/a-christmas-themed-sweet-treat/

We also need to send a special Thank You to the team at Yummy Snack Foods who donated the lollies our team handed out during the event!

It was a great afternoon all round, made better by sharing the smiles and joy with the Victor Harbor Community!

The construction process for Christmas is complete at Salvage & Save Goolwa!

In progress for the previous six months, from planning, to building and decorating, the team has constructed a near-life-sized gingerbread house!

It was a task that not only allowed the full team to be involved, to put the skills they’ve learned in employment to a practical and hands on job, but also a way to bring some Christmas cheer in the community.

The Gingerbread House has accompanied our teams during the Salisbury Community Christmas Parade and the Mount Barker Christmas Pageant , with one more to come tomorrow in Victor Harbor!

Have you seen our team’s hard work in person yet?

Alesio!

Alesio is always punctual, setting a great example for the rest of the team as he always starts work, and returns from breaks on time. He’s highly focussed and consistently produces good quality product. He’s also happy to help wherever he can, always volunteering to help with room cleans, moving stock around and more!

Alesio is a fantastic, well rounded and well-liked member of our team, and is more than worthy of being named Employee of the Month!

Well done, Alesio! Keep up the fantastic work!

The South Coast Firewood & Gardens team recently completed a new type of gardening job at the Encounter Bay Football Club – laying turf!

The job gave our team an opportunity to learn and practice a whole new set of skills,

“I’ve never seen us taking on a turf job” Michael, an employee who’s been on our team for over 25 years said.

Our 🛠 Elizabeth Salvage & Save team participated in the Salisbury Community Christmas Parade over the weekend!

It was a great day out for the team, an opportunity to get out into the community, and create happy memories through experiences – all the more with a bit of Christmas Cheer thrown in to really begin the festive season! 🎄🎅🎁

Not only were they showing off their Christmas Colours, the team from 🛠 Salvage & Save Goolwa also chipped in something special! A giant gingerbread house for the parade! Hand built and decorated by the team! It looks fantastic and will be making appearances at many more Christmas events, parades and pageants we're participating in this month!

Want to see our Giant Gingerbread House in person? The 🛠 Salvage & Save Windmill Hill team is walking in the Mount Barker Christmas Pageant this Saturday the 6th of December. We'll see you there!

This week the team at 🛠 Salvage & Save Windmill Hill got on board with making some improvements to the site!

Line painting!

Not only to perform some much-needed maintenance to the fading paint lines, but also as a great opportunity to learn some unique skills that aren’t normally performed at work!

What a great way to spend some time together at work, learn new skills, and play an active role in the upkeep of the business!

Plus, the result looks awesome!

Well done team! 💪

Our Story

Mobo Group was created due to the merge of two successful disability enterprises, Hands On SA (HOSA) and Finding Workable Solutions (FWS). Prior to the merge the HOSA brand had 55 years of history and the FWS brand had 28 years. Mobo Group was founded in 1963 by a group of parents of children with a disability who wanted to provide their children with vocational training and real employment opportunities.

Today, Mobo Group provides employment to more than 200 people living with a disability across two metropolitan sites spanning from Kingscote to Berri.

Of upmost importance to our entire organisation is the empowerment of our employees and for our business to be the best it can be. We value listening and understanding to create the best outcome; whether it be support for employees or a savvy commercial solution. We will do whatever it takes to deliver better business and better lives. We believe the sky is the limit and our structure gives us the freedom to continually explore what’s next.
