Sister Janet Hay (pictured) was the original founder and first Director of Nursing at St Andrew’s Hospital. She opened the Hospital in 1936 after returning from World War I, where she served in Salonika, Greece and was awarded the Victory Medal, a British war medal and a British 1914/15 star.
With a fierce commitment to excellence, Sister Hay set out to create a modern, private hospital in South Australia that would be second to none.
As we step into St Andrew’s 90th year of care, her influence is felt in every ward, every interaction, and every moment of compassion shown to patients and families.
Her vision for personalised, high-quality care continues to guide us, and her pioneering spirit lives on in the incredible people who make up our hospital community today.
Thank you, Sister Janet, for your courage, your determination, and the legacy we proudly carry forward.
