Hear from Erin about the common experience women face when dealing with an osteoporosis diagnosis:
“These are terrible scores.” (Without any information on what the numbers in their DXA scan actually mean.)
“You will break a hip and be in a wheelchair by the end of the year.” (Fear tactics taken when this client wanted to first explore treatment options beyond drugs.)
“Never lift more than 10kgs again.” (Her grandchild is 9kgs… “and they keep growing!” She was genuinely panicked.)
This is a pattern I see time and time again when working with clients, specifically women, who receive an osteoporosis diagnosis. They are often shocked, upset and scared at receiving this diagnosis, which is delivered with language that is disempowering and fear-inducing.
These women leave appointments with more questions, concerns and worry than they had before. They feel fragile. Old. Ignored. Scared.
We need to move the needle in a positive direction that puts the woman back in the driver’s seat of her own health, where women are encouraged and supported to explore all options available to them beyond a medication-only approach.
It has been my honour and pleasure to work closely with women over the years as they learn about the power and success of the ONERO program - an evidence-based exercise intervention specifically for the management of osteoporosis.
The EP Studio has been licensees of ONERO for 6+ years - our clients often find us via their own research, frantically scouring the internet for answers, options, ideas… something to give them hope.
They come across ONERO. They find a provider near them (like us!) and make an appointment.
Then the education begins.
The empowerment begins.
Their confidence improves.
Their strength improves.
Their quality of life improves.
Their vitality returns.
For many women, their bone density holds steady. And for some women, their bone density also IMPROVES.
Exercise as part of a strategy for those with osteoporosis is by far the most underutilised, yet it has the most profound benefits across more than just bone density (increased muscle mass, decreased risk of many chronic health conditions, increased mobility, improved strength and improved function for daily life).
I would love to have all clients come to us because they have been advised they MUST exercise as part of their osteoporosis management plan.
Not old. Not fragile. Not afraid.
Just strong bodies AND strong bones.
