If you suspect a stroke or notice any of these symptoms it is VITAL that you call 000 for an Ambulance. 📱📞

This allows them to try and capture the window (where possible) and to treat and minimise the damage and possible residual symptoms. ⏱️

Don't delay, call 000 ‼️‼️

Would you be able to recognise the signs of a stroke?

Learn the F.A.S.T. signs of stroke this National Stroke Week and ask these questions if you think someone may be having a stroke:

😕 FACE - has the mouth drooped on one side?
💪 ARMS - can they lift both arms?
🗨️ Speech - is it slurred? Is there difficulty understanding or responding?
⌛ Time - is critical, call triple zero (000) straight away if you think you or someone else may be having a stroke.

As First Aid Trainers we often work solo, so it's a rare treat to work together. This is all of the head2toe Trainers except one (Derryn was working elsewhere.... we missed you xx).

Over the last 2 days this dream team delivered a fun, interactive first aid training to the year 10 students at St Ignatius College, Adelaide. The Students were amazing and finished the courses with valuable life skills feeling first aid confident, with a certificate for their resume as an added bonus. Such a valuable opportunity that the school provides!

I also want to mention the face that never sees the training but has done 80% of the behind the scenes and is always on call to fix the IT/admin when we are at a course. Kaitlin Newman we couldn't do this without you and your name gets mentioned by both Trainers and Client all the time, you are a superstar!

Concussion is common with several winter sports! As a parent, observer or coaching staff, it is important to know how to recognise a potential concussion.

Sometimes players and coaches can in stressful situations want to push through and play situations where there may be a potential concussion. It is so important to take a concussion seriously and if in doubt, sit them out!

What to do for suspected concussion from the AIS:
First-aid principles apply. Neck injuries should be suspected if there is any loss of consciousness, neck pain or a mechanism that could lead to spinal injury. Athletes in this type of situation shouldn’t be moved without guidance from appropriately trained individuals.

Is anyone else struggling with allergies? And I am sure the varying weather will throw another spanner in the works.

My daughter Aimee is suffering so much atm!!!

If you are someone or know of someone who suffers, have you looked into preventatives like a steroid spray, rather than treating symptomatically with antihistamine?

Most people know that they need to minimise the exposure to their allergen/s, and treat the symptoms with antihistamine to make themselves feel more comfortable. However, less people know some of the other tricks such as the importance of using a steroid nasal spray (see your Dr) regularly to desensitize the mucous membranes to the allergen. A steroid nasal spray can prevent symptoms of hayfever or minimise their impact. However, many people do not use it regularly enough to notice the impact.

Did you know that some Easter treats can be a choking risk?

A quick tip and reminder, with smaller kids try selecting larger, hollow eggs as they have a lower chance of choking. Try to stay clear of small solid eggs, egss with whole nuts and also eggs with really sicky insides, like marshmallows.

Have you seen the new 'Neffy' devices? Would you know what to do if someone had one of these?

Now that there are more adrenaline device options on the market in Australia than ever before, it's important to make an informed decision with your doctor about which device is right for you 🤔

We've compared adrenaline devices to show the similarities and differences of all devices registered in Australia: EpiPen®, Anapen® and neffy®.
