REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Remedial Massage incorporates several techniques that assist in healing, relieving pain and improving the health of our body. Sensitive points in our muscles often refer pain to other parts of our body. For instance, headaches may originate from strained muscles in our neck. Remedial massage helps to stimulate blood flow in these areas, reducing pain, swelling and speeding up the body's natural healing process. Remedial Massage may be used to treat:

• Back and neck pain
• Headaches and migraines
• Joint pain/arthritis
• Sciatica
• Work and sports related injuries

SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports Massage is Massage and Stretching techniques applied to our muscles and connective tissues of our body. It is designed to enhance physical performance, alleviate stress, tension and muscle soreness. Sports Massage promotes flexibility by increasing our range of movements promoting faster recovery from injuries. It may be performed before, during or after physical activities. Sports massage may also assist in treating minor injuries and lesions that occur as a result of overexertion or overuse. TRADITIONAL CUPPING THERAPY
Traditional Cupping Therapy is a traditional Chinese modality that uses cups placed on the skin to draw up underlying tissues. The cup is rolled up the skin and left in place for 5 to 15 minutes. This causes our body to release toxins, activate the lymphatic system, clear blockages and increase blood flow. It is commonly used for:

• Lower back problems
• Muscular and joint pain
• Sciatica
• Stiff shoulders
• Common cold and influenza
• Bronchial asthma
• Skin complaints
• Premenstrual pain

DRY NEEDLING
Dry Needling is used for the treatment of muscle pain and dysfunction. It involves introducing fine, sterile acupuncture needles into “trigger points” (knots) of muscles. Dry Needling alleviates the symptoms of trigger points and is commonly used for the treatment of:

• Neck pain, headaches and migraines
• Hamstring and lower back problems
• Stress and muscular tightness
• Sporting injuries
• Jaw pain / TMJ

DEEP TISSUE
Deep Tissue Massage uses slow, deep and intense massage strokes across the grain of our muscle. Greater pressure is applied to deeper layers of our muscle than that of relaxation massage. It is beneficial for healing physical injuries, joint restrictions and structural misalignment. RELAXATION MASSAGE
Relaxation Massage is designed to reduced stress and rebalances our vital body energy. It increases blood flow by easing muscular and psychological tension giving you a chance to relax and de-stress. PREGNANCY MASSAGE
Pregnancy is a very special time in a woman’s life which creates significant physiological, structural and psychological changes. Using gentle, appropriate techniques massage may relieve common discomforts associated with pregnancy such as:

• Back aches

Cupping Therapy a Solution for Sporting Injuries

When Michael Phelps showed up to the 2016 Olympics covered in large purple dots, he raised a lot of eyebrows. Were they the result of a bar fight? Some kind of alternative medicine woo? Four years later, just about everyone knows what those purple dots result from: Cupping, an ancient Chinese practice that has made its way into the mainstream thanks to visible devotees like Phelps, NBA star Draymond Green, and the U.S. women’s gymnastics team.

But make no mistake cupping isn’t just a new fad. “Humanity has utilized these cupping modalities for thousands of years throughout history, trend or not,” says Jason Miller, former bodywork therapist for USA Track and Field and current educator for the International Cupping Therapy Association.

In cupping, certified practitioners place specialized glass or plastic cups on the skin. Using either heat (on glass) or an air pump (plastic), suction is created within the cup for 10 to 30 minutes, pulling the skin slightly up and away from the underlying muscles. Blood then circulates into the area under the cup, which can aid in muscle health and functionality, clearing out pathogens, and boosting the immune response.

For athletes, cupping can yield a lot of benefits. “Cupping therapy is exceptionally beneficial for athletic conditioning and rehabilitation,” says Miller. “The negative pressure draws the tissue up into the cup, opening up the body, lifting tissue, and releasing tension in the structures of the body without the discomfort of force or compression.” In other words, cupping is a lot like a reverse massage instead of pressing down, the structures of the body are lifted up.

This therapy is said to provide relief to athletes experiencing various sport-related injuries; particularly IT Band syndrome, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, sciatica, and frozen shoulder.

Just what is Dry Needling?

You may have heard of a treatment called dry needling and wondered what exactly it is or if it’s something that may be right for you.

While the name of the procedure may sound intimidating, dry needling is safe, minimally discomforting and often an effective technique for patients with certain musculoskeletal presentations. Dry needling is a treatment performed by skilled, trained physical therapists, certified in the procedure. A thin monofilament needle penetrates the skin and treats underlying muscular trigger points for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.

So, what is a trigger point? A trigger point is a local contracture or tight band in a muscle fiber that can disrupt function, restrict range of motion, refer pain or cause local tenderness. When dry needling is applied to a dysfunctional muscle or trigger point, it can decrease banding or tightness, increase blood flow, and reduce local and referred pain.

It’s important to note dry needling is not the same as acupuncture. It uses similar tools, but that’s where the similarities end. Dry needling is performed by different practitioners with different training. Acupuncture is based on Eastern medicine, while dry needling is rooted in Western medicine and evaluation of pain patterns, posture, movement impairments, function and orthopedic tests.

Dry needling treats muscle tissue, and its goal is to reduce pain, inactivate trigger points and restore function. It rarely is a standalone procedure. Rather, it often is part of a broader physical therapy approach incorporating other traditional physical therapy interventions into treatment. Dry needling can be used for a wide variety of musculoskeletal issues, such as shoulder, neck, heel, hip and back pain.

Can Children Benefit from Massage Therapy?

Just like food, exercise and good care, touching is an essential element in the sound development of a child. Nowadays, children are brought into the fast pace of life very early on. Caught between play, school, sports and countless demands, children have a good deal of stress. Stress raises blood pressure, lessens the immune defence and can contribute to problems such as obesity, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity and depression. All of these consequences can force the child to live reactively, in the mode of defence, flight and combat.

Studies have shown that the brains of children who have received massages are more stimulated by 20 to 30%. Massage has an effect on stress hormones, causing the recipient to be more calm, attentive and collaborative. Massage can allow to get rid of major stresses, bring balance back to the body, improve sleep and even help in avoiding taking some medications. Those who have had the chance to benefit from massage therapy can attest to the benefits it can give children.
