November PD Update! 📚

Last Friday, our teams all got together for some more great professional development sessions!

Our Physio team spent some time with Dr Cassandra Zaina, Specialist Occupational Health Physiotherapist, who provided an update on safe and effective Dry Needling practice within the Physio profession. She also discussed career pathway opportunities, and the process of specialisation. Our physio Rashmi also presented a hip case study, after some training with Dr Alison Grimaldi, an incredible physio and 'hip guru'!

The team had a session run by our Senior Exercise Scientist James, sharing his knowledge on the benefits of cluster sets, including safely building strength under various health conditions, and rehab post injury to avoid flare-ups! They worked in groups, to each explore a different movement and prescription format, debriefing at the end to report on their findings.

The team discussed the new AHPRA Code of Conduct for Psychologists, considering how this applies to our practice. The team enjoyed their virtual catch-up, as it meant everyone could take part!

It was great to get everyone together, and such a valuable and practical learning session for all us all! We are looking forward to our multi-disciplinary Conference coming up in December too!

This October, we’re celebrating a few of the wonderful team members who help make our clinics such warm, welcoming, and supportive spaces!

We celebrated the birthday of Sarah, a much-loved member of our Magill admin team. Sarah is often the first friendly face you’ll see behind the desk, and her warm, welcoming presence helps set the tone for a great experience at the clinic. Thank you, Sarah, for all that you do!

Kristin, one of our amazing Physiotherapists at Glenelg, celebrated his birthday this month too! It’s been such a pleasure having Kristin around the clinic. His positive energy and enthusiasm are infectious, and we love the care and dedication he brings to his work.

We also wish a very happy birthday to Alana from our Malvern admin team. You’ve likely seen Alana’s smiling face on Saturday mornings, and her calm presence and ability to keep everything running smoothly are so appreciated by both staff and clients.

And finally, we celebrate Patrick's birthday, a member of the incredible NLC Psychology team. Patrick’s calm and welcoming approach, paired with his dedicated care, is noticed and valued by everyone who walks through our doors. We’re so grateful to have him on our team!

A big thank you to Sarah, Kristin, Alana and Patrick, and happy birthday to each of you!

Living with joint pain, stiffness, or swelling, especially if you also have psoriasis, might be more than just wear and tear. Psoriatic Arthritis is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects both small and large joints, commonly in the fingers, toes, spine, neck, or pelvis. While it often follows the onset of skin psoriasis, not everyone with psoriatic arthritis shows visible skin symptoms.

The condition can be unpredictable, flaring at times and easing off at others, and no two people experience it the same way. Symptoms vary widely in location, intensity, and progression. That’s why early diagnosis and individualised care are essential.

Although there’s no cure, effective treatment can reduce symptoms, manage flare-ups, and help prevent long-term joint damage. A gold-standard approach includes a combination of medication, education, exercise, sleep and lifestyle support, and this is where Allied Health professionals like Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists play a vital role.

At the core of our treatment is a personalised plan that helps improve movement, reduce discomfort, and support your overall wellbeing. With the right support team, living well with psoriatic arthritis is absolutely possible.

👉 If you or someone you know is experiencing joint pain with or without psoriasis, speak to your healthcare provider about assessment and referral options. You can find out more inforamtion here: https://moveforbetterhealth.com.au/common-health-problems/psoriatic-arthritis/
