Attention Hobby Horse members 🐴💚 something exciting for you this coming weekend details below ⬇️
The Mount Barker District Show will be holding a Hobby Horse ‘working equitation’ event on Saturday March 28 near stage 2 in the south east part of the oval, Wellington Rd Mount Barker. Working equitation is an obstacle course where the rider completes a series of obstacles such as a gate, bridge, bending poles (slalom) to show their style and ability (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5sDSUZRzqU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5sDSUZRzqU) shows an example of working equitation at a high-level competition).
Coaching, and practice, is available from 9:00am to 4:00pm and you can bring your own hobby horse or borrow one from our herd. ‘Come and Try’ for beginners is available all day with a ribbon awarded together with judge’s feedback on the round. A competition for Experienced riders will be held at 2:00pm to showcase the sport and inspire new riders, with a rosette and ribbon awarded for 1st, and ribbons for 2nd, and 3rd. (Entries will be accepted on the day). And a Celebrity Challenge will be held at 11:30am, for invited public figures.
Hobby horsing is a sport where participants ride hobby horses (stick horses) to perform equestrian sequences such as show jumping and dressage. It is a crossover sport between gymnastics and equestrian with many hobby horsers also riding real horses, and is open to everyone. It is a fun and social sport but can also be seriously athletic at the international level. We hope to see you on the day!
