๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Independent Living Skills in Action! ๐Ÿฅ•

Our Independent Living Skills group worked together to make a delicious zucchini slice!

From start to finish, the group practiced real-life skills โ€” creating a shopping list, heading out to buy ingredients, and deciding who would take on each cooking task.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ Team effort highlights:
Jobe grated the zucchini and carrot
Phillip cooked the onion and bacon
Dylan cracked the eggs and mixed all the ingredients together

Everyone had a great time learning new skills they can use in everyday life. The final result looked (and smelled!) fantastic, and the group was very proud of what they achieved.

Afterwards, we worked together to clean up the kitchen and are already excited to see what weโ€™ll cook next! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŒŸ Celebrating International Day of People with Disability - Australia (IDPWD) with CBS Inc.! ๐ŸŒŸ

On 3 December, CBS Inc. proudly celebrated International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) with a spectacular Ball at the beautiful Burnside Ballroom. Thanks to City of Burnside to sponsoring us for the ball!

This special day is all about honouring people living with disability โ€” their achievements, their resilience, their creativity, and the vital contributions they make to our community. At CBS Inc., we believe in empowering people of all abilities to lead full, meaningful and self-directed lives, and this event was a celebration of that strength and spirit. ๐Ÿ’™

We also recognised the incredible frontline staff who work tirelessly to support people with disability every day. Your commitment, compassion and advocacy help create a more inclusive and accessible world for everyone.
A huge thank you to our outstanding MC, Nicole Greeneklee, for hosting the evening with such talent and heart, and for sharing her inspiring story with us.

We were honoured to be joined by
โœจ Mayor Anne Monceaux โ€“ City of Burnside, who delivered a wonderful speech and generously hosted us at the Burnside Ballroom
โœจ Bradley Hughes, MBA , โ€“ Assistant Director, South Australia & Northern Territory, NDIS, who celebrated this meaningful day with us. Brad, we truly value your ongoing support and the time you share with us at these special moments.
A very special thanks goes to Ollie, our event flyer design competition winner. Your outstanding speech and incredible talent were truly one of the highlights of the night. We are so proud of you!

Our gratitude also goes to Craig Love, Executive Manager NDIS, for his leadership and support in making this event possible.

And of course โ€” a massive shoutout to our event committee for their hard work and dedication: Sarah, Kaylee, and James. Your efforts brought this celebration to life!

๐Ÿ’ซ This was the perfect way to honour IDPwD โ€” a day to celebrate the abilities, voices and experiences of people with disability. We look forward to creating even more empowering and memorable moments together.

๐ŸŽ„ Spreading Christmas Cheer in Whyalla! ๐ŸŽ„

Over the weekend, our Whyalla Choices participants proudly took part in the Whyalla Christmas Pageant โ€” and what an incredible day it was!

This was our second year joining the festivities, and our float, โ€˜The Gift Boxโ€™, was a true highlight. A huge shout-out to Wayne for driving the float, while Jack and Shakira joyfully shared Christmas greetings with the crowd.

Liam, Robert, Tricia and Kylie walked alongside the float, handing out lollies and wishing everyone a very warm Merry Christmas.

Our group worked together to create the theme and plan their festive outfits โ€” a wonderful display of teamwork, creativity and community spirit.

Taking part in such a special local event means so much to our participants, and weโ€™re already excited for next yearโ€™s pageant! ๐ŸŽโœจ

๐ŸŒŸ Natalieโ€™s Journey to Confidence & Employment ๐ŸŒŸ

When Natalie first joined Jobnet, she was filled with anxiety. She could only attend appointments if her dad was by her side.
But after nearly two months, something amazing happened โ€” Natalie felt confident enough to come in on her own, with Dad waiting in the car. Soon after, she took another huge step: catching the bus independently to and from her appointments. ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸšŒ

Natalie wasnโ€™t sure she could work. With a learning delay, even the idea of using a register or answering a phone felt overwhelming.
But with patient support from her Employment Officer โ€” breaking down job descriptions, practising new skills, and building confidence โ€” Natalie started applying for roles she felt excited about, especially in clothing retail. ๐Ÿ‘—โœจ

She then joined the CBSI Work Ready Program, where she created a resume and cover letter she was truly proud of, and absolutely shone during her mock interview. ๐ŸŒŸ

With her confidence growing, Natalie widened her job search to include supermarket retail and entry-level admin. Her first interview didnโ€™t lead to a job โ€” but that didnโ€™t stop her. She kept going.

Then came another opportunity. A new supermarket. A new interview. New worries.
But Natalie showed up. She tried. She pushed through.
And she was offered a paid work trial โ€” and then the job! ๐ŸŽ‰

Today, Natalie has been working 15โ€“20 hours a week at her local supermarket for 3 months. She has faced her anxiety around handling money head-on, learned to troubleshoot on her own, and now even finishes days with a perfectly balanced register. ๐Ÿงก

Her confidence has grown beyond what she imagined โ€” and we couldnโ€™t be prouder.

๐Ÿ‘ Well done, Natalie. Your determination is inspiring.
