A great start to the morning today, with the Breakthrough team visiting and to talk about mental health and the steps we can all take to reduce stigma on this important subject. Our CEO John Mannion shared practical ways to connect with someone who may be struggling and how to offer steady support.

👉How do you help someone feel safe? How do you listen without rushing? Have you helped someone feel heard? Do they want a hug? Do they need reassurance or hope?

👉Tune in to Nova919 next Monday to hear John’s insights.

Huge thanks to for choosing to run 50KM to raise funds for mental health research on 28 November 🏃‍♂️

It’s days like these that remind us why we do what we do. Breakthrough was honoured to receive a $17,300 donation from CPR Engineers, Directors David Reynolds and Mark Billinger, following their successful Melbourne Cup Day fundraiser.

CPR Engineers share a long-standing partnership with Cheesman Architects, who have played a key role in designing Breakthrough’s major fundraising project, the new Statewide Eating Disorder Service (SEDS) at the Repat Health Precinct in Daw Park.

This generous contribution will help bring the SEDS Centre one step closer, supporting the design of a world-class facility that will unite patients, clinicians and researchers under one roof to deliver leading evidence-based care and drive new discoveries in treatment and prevention.

This Remembrance Day, we pause to honour the bravery and sacrifice of all who have served, from the soldiers of the World Wars and our ANZACs along the Kokoda Track, to those who continue to protect and serve today.🖤

In this short video from The Advertiser journalist Paul Ashenden shares a deeply moving poem written by his grandfather, a Kokoda Veteran.

A powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice and enduring human spirit behind every story.

Paul recently joined a fundraising trek with the Kokoda Centurions, raising funds for mental health research through Breakthrough and The Man Cave

Lest we forget. ✝

Breakthrough is proud to launch our upcoming $2 Donation Token Campaign in partnership with Metcash Food SA/NT, the driving force behind Australia’s most successful independent retail brands.
Running from 5 to 26 November, participating IGA Australia stores across South Australia and the Northern Territory will once again support mental health research through this initiative, helping fund projects that prevent, treat and better understand mental illness.
When shoppers add a $2 token at checkout, they help fund research that prevents, treats and understands mental illness, while connecting communities and empowering lasting change.
With 1 in 2 Australians expected to experience a diagnosable mental health condition in their lifetime, and 9 Australians lost to su***de every day, research is vital to turning these numbers around.
Each donation helps fund local research and programs that make a real difference in people’s lives. Tokens will be displayed in-store to show community support, with 78 IGA Stores across SA and NT participating.
A heartfelt thank you to Metcash Food SA/NT and all participating IGA stores for their ongoing commitment to improving mental health in our communities.
👉Ask your IGA cashier to add a $2 token to your purchase, and turn your spare change into hope through research.

Breakthrough, together with the James and Diana Ramsay Foundation, has funded a multi-year program supporting young people who have engaged in self-harm or suicidality.
👉 Led by Senior Clinician Susan Num at Southern Adelaide Local Health Network - SALHN Youth Mental Health Service, the program uses evidence based therapies including CBT and DBT.

👉 Thanks to this fundraising support, 75% of families complete the 24-week program, showing measurable improvements in mental health and quality of life. SALHN now offers free weekly DBT-A group therapy sessions.

👉Building on this success, a new recently launched DBT-A Graduate Program provides ongoing monthly sessions for program graduates to build wellbeing, resilience and peer support.

As the first program of its kind in South Australia, it shows how vital mental health fundraising has become, and combined with public mental health services, it can directly improve recovery and drive long-term systemic change. 💜

Tackling Mental Health Head On

Our vision is to create a life free from mental illness.

Mental illness is going to be the biggest health challenge in our life time. It consumes lives, ruins lives and takes lives.

Mind and brain research is the only way to know what action needs to be taken to create a life free from mental illness.

Right now, one in five Australians has a mental health issue, and more people between 15-44 years are dying from su***de than any other cause.
