Soccer Example ๐๐ฝ below!!
Tony G., a goalkeeper for his Division II soccer team, had been performing exceptionally well, with five consecutive wins and no goals conceded during that period. As a result, Tony felt invincible in goal and became complacent, abandoning his rigorous pre-game preparation routine. He no longer warmed up his body as thoroughly as before and did not attempt saves aggressively during the teamโs shoot-around. In a game against their winless cross-town rivals, Tony conceded a goal just ten minutes into the game, which should have been a routine save. Five minutes later, he froze on a shot and let in another goal. After conceding another goal, Tony was pulled from the game, and his team ultimately lost 4-0. This scenario illustrates the detrimental impact of overconfidence on performance.
