I need to put a boundary in place!

Often, we already know where a boundary is needed — at work, with family, or in relationships.
We can even imagine how much easier things might feel.

What often catches people off guard isn’t the boundary itself — it’s the reaction to it.

We don’t always prepare for how others might respond, or for the emotions that can come up in us afterwards.

Guilt. Anxiety. Self-doubt. Fear of conflict.

When those feelings hit unexpectedly, it can make holding the boundary feel too hard.

This is where support can help — not just with what to say, but with understanding reactions, managing your own response, and holding boundaries in a way that feels right for you.

If you’d like confidential support around this, you’re welcome to reach out.

Why do I feel guilty asking for help?

This is especially common if you’re used to coping on your own, being the strong one, or looking after everyone else. You might worry that talking about people you care about feels disloyal or uncomfortable. There can also be a quiet belief that others need help more — or that your own struggles aren’t “bad enough” to deserve support.

For some, guilt shows up around money too, especially when finances feel tight and spending on yourself feels hard to justify.
Often, these feelings are shaped by how we were raised — where emotions weren’t talked about, problems were kept private, or asking for help felt embarrassing. Cultural expectations can play a role as well.

Counselling isn’t about blaming others or judging situations. It’s a confidential space to talk about what you’re carrying, how it’s affecting you, and say the things you may not feel able to say anywhere else.

A private space to talk things through — and leave feeling a little lighter afterwards.
No GP referral required.

Relationship stress doesn’t only come from partners or dating relationships.

It can exist in families, workplaces, caregiving roles, shared living situations, or long-standing dynamics where responsibility, obligation, or emotional strain is part of daily life.
It doesn’t always show up as conflict — sometimes it’s the emotional weight of responsibility, silence, or holding everything together.
Individual counselling provides confidential support to explore relationship stress, validate your feelings, and understand how the situation is affecting you — even if circumstances can’t change.

Immediate support is available online or at Port Adelaide 💛

Skin Check Reminder!!
I had a tiny spot on my nose that just kept getting a fine scab on it - turned out being a BCC skin cancer that had to be removed. Don’t put off a skin check. What you see on the outside isn’t what’s always going on under your skin. 💛

This was 6 years ago and I just wanted to share it to remind all busy parents to get your skin checked at least annually. My fabulous GP almost dismissed my age spot that had changed just a little but thankfully she refrred me to a dermatologist for further exploration. He also almost dismissed it but did a biopsy. When he called me at 6.30 at night I knew it wasn't good news. I had a melanoma in situ and this is me after operation to remove it! Don't delay!

Today marks a big day for many families across SA — whether it’s the first day of kindy, primary school, high school, or Year 12. It’s a time filled with mixed emotions for parents, caregivers, children, and teens alike.

After the long holiday break, getting back into the rhythm of the school routine can feel overwhelming. Early mornings, packing lunches, managing school drop-offs and pick-ups, or navigating school refusal all take energy. When you add in juggling your own commitments, it’s no surprise that stress levels can rise quickly.

Finding a routine that works for you and your family takes time, patience, and a bit of trial and error — so be gentle with yourself if things don’t go to plan straight away.

Wishing all families a calm and supportive transition into the school term. 💛

Performance anxiety isn’t limited to work or public speaking. It can show up in sport, study, leadership roles or any situation where you feel seen, or expected to perform.

This pressure can lead to:

• Anxiety before or after performances, games, or important moments
• Overthinking mistakes or replaying events repeatedly
• Being highly self-critical despite effort or success
• Emotional reactions or saying things that feel out of character
• Withdrawing, shutting down, or losing enjoyment

Counselling can help you understand what’s driving this pressure, reduce self-criticism, and develop ways to respond with more balance.

Chat It Out offers counselling support in a range of settings to suit the individual.
Sessions can take place at our counselling space in Port Adelaide, through walk-and-talk sessions in the local metro area, or onsite with sporting clubs. Other options can also be discussed to best support your needs.

Please reach out if you would like support.

🚨 URGENT: Kids Need School Essentials – Right Now 🚨

Over the past few days, I’ve had mums reach out in tears because they simply cannot afford school shoes for their kids.
I’ve had families asking for lunch boxes and drink bottles — not extras, just the basics their children need to go to school.

Families are doing it incredibly tough right now.
Some are couch surfing.
Some have fled domestic violence.
Some are choosing between food, rent, and school essentials.

And it is heartbreaking.

No child should feel embarrassed or left behind because their family is struggling.

💛 What we urgently need:
• School shoes (runners or black school shoes)
• Lunch boxes
• Drink bottles
• Pencil cases & stationery
• Hair ties

📍 Drop-offs / deliveries can be made to:
• 52 Pleasant Avenue, Glandore
• 2/66 Humphries Terrace, Kilkenny
- Harcourts Essentials - 74 Park Tce, Salisbuy

If you’re a shop or service owner and would like to be a local drop-off point, please reach out — we would love to add you to our list.

If you’re in a position to help, please do.
One pair of shoes.
One lunch box.
One small act that tells a child: you matter.

Thank you for being part of the village that shows up when families need it most.
