While we’re busy growing them up, life has a way of growing us too.⠀

You think you’re the one doing the teaching, but half the time you’re learning on the go. Learning patience, learning when to take a breath, learning how to do things a bit better than you did yesterday.⠀

Practice your love language on yourself. 🤍⠀

Most of us know the five love languages — words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service, and physical touch. We often think about them in the context of partners, family, and friendships.⠀

But somewhere along the way, many of us stopped offering those same things to ourselves.⠀

If you’re someone who is always doing things for everyone else, this is your reminder: you deserve that care too.⠀

Here are a few simple ways to practice your love language with yourself 👇⠀

✨ Words of affirmation: Speak to yourself with the same kindness you give others. Write down your strengths or remind yourself of what you’re doing well.⠀

🍲 Acts of service: Cook yourself a proper meal, clear the kitchen bench, organise that drawer that’s been bothering you. Sometimes care looks like making your own life a little easier.⠀

🎁 Receiving gifts: It doesn’t have to be extravagant. Buy the good tea, the book you’ve been wanting to read, or invest in something that helps you grow.⠀

☕ Quality time: Take a walk, sit with a coffee without your phone, make time for hobbies that make you feel like you again.⠀

🤍 Physical touch: Stretch, book a massage, take a long shower, or simply pause long enough to place a hand on your heart and breathe.⠀

What’s your love language — and how do you show it to yourself?⠀

Young people are growing up in a world where their emotional lives can feel overwhelming, confusing, and hard to navigate.⠀

Practices like mindful self-compassion for teens remind us that emotions aren’t something to fear or “fix.” They’re not problems to solve. They’re part of being human.⠀

When young people learn to notice their feelings with kindness instead of judgment, something powerful happens. They begin to understand that difficult emotions are normal, that they’re not alone in them, and that they can move through them with care rather than criticism.⠀

Every young person deserves the tools to navigate their inner world with curiosity, courage, and compassion.

Sometimes we move through our days so quickly that we’re barely in them.

Our minds are already on the next task, the next message, the next thing that needs to get done. And before we know it, the moment we’re in has already passed.

The conversation with someone we love.
The colour of the sunset.
The crisp morning air on a walk.

Not because we don’t care about these things — but because our attention is somewhere else.

When life starts to feel like a constant rush, we can end up eating without tasting, listening without really hearing, and talking without truly knowing what we’re saying.

Sometimes the most meaningful moments in our lives are the ones we only notice when we slow down enough to be fully there for them.

Presence isn’t about doing more.
It’s about pausing long enough to actually experience the life that’s already happening.

This week of running ⠀

Week 9 of training for the Ballarat Marathon.⠀

The week started the usual way — training with Byron at Absolute Edge Fitness.⠀
Tuesday was low-impact recovery on the stationary bike at Goodlife.⠀
Wednesday was a 40-minute recovery run.⠀

Then came one of the toughest long runs I’ve had so far. Physically and mentally grinding. The kind that makes you question everything halfway through.⠀

Maybe it was the heat, maybe under-fuelling, maybe just one of those off days. I’m trying not to overanalyse it… but I probably am.⠀

Still, I dusted myself off and finished my final two runs for the week. Rest day today.⠀

Lesson for the week:⠀
Listen to the voice in your head… and talk back to it.⠀

If you can tell yourself:⠀
I’m not good enough⠀
I’m not strong enough⠀
I can’t do this⠀

You can also tell yourself:⠀
I am good enough.⠀
I am strong.⠀
I can do this.⠀

7 weeks to go.⠀

Space fixes more things than we think.⠀

Space isn’t always dramatic.⠀
It’s just small changes like:⠀

saying no to an invite⠀
not texting as much⠀
keeping some things to yourself⠀
sitting with different people at lunch⠀

No big conversation.⠀
No announcement.⠀

Just quietly giving yourself a bit more room to breathe.⠀

How to be a yogi?⠀
Show up.⠀
Do your best.⠀

That’s it.⠀

Not the bendiest.⠀
Not the strongest.⠀
Not the calmest.⠀

Some days your best is strong and steady.⠀
Some days your best is simply rolling out your mat.⠀

Both count.⠀

She kept waiting for things to change.⠀
For people to act differently.⠀
For the timing to be better.⠀

Then she realised —⠀
the only remote she actually had⠀
was the one controlling her own actions.⠀

She couldn’t fast-forward the hard parts.⠀
She couldn’t mute other people’s opinions.⠀

But she could choose how she responded.⠀
She could choose what she tolerated.⠀
She could choose her next step.⠀

This week of running:⠀

Week 8 – Training for Ballarat Marathon 🏃‍♀️⠀

Monday night intervals with Byron at Absolute Edge Fitness: 6 x 800m.⠀
I hate this distance. I went out too hard trying to hang with the fast boys and completely gassed myself early. But I finished. That’s the point of these sessions — get uncomfortable, try new drills, push the edges a bit.⠀

Tuesday “rest” day (aka teaching 3 yoga classes).⠀

Wednesday: 60-minute recovery run on the treadmill because the wind was next level.⠀

Thursday: 2-hour long run. This one felt good. Pace was steady, relaxed, achievable.⠀

Friday: unexpected rest day. Volunteered at the kids’ school, submitted an assignment, then into the city to see Pulp with a friend. Full day - No time for a run.⠀

Saturday: 30-minute recovery run on the home treadmill. So humid. So sweaty. Followed by 15 minutes in the sauna.⠀

Sunday: 5 x 5-minute intervals after little athletics. Hot, humid, and approximately one million flying bugs glued to my sweaty skin. Gross. But the session went well.⠀

8 weeks to go 💪
