Today on International Volunteer Day we say a huge thank you to every St John SA volunteer.

This year’s theme, Every Contribution Matters, could not be more fitting. In 2024/25, 951 volunteers gave more than 90,000 hours of service, valued at over $3.6 million to the South Australian community.

From providing first aid at community events and Carols by Candlelight, to supporting community care, youth programs and training, you help people feel safe, supported and connected every day.

We also acknowledge and thank our many volunteers in administration, logistics, planning and leadership roles whose quiet work behind the scenes makes this impact possible.

Thank you for everything you do for our community.

Get ready for an unforgettable night as Metallica takes over Adelaide Oval!

St John Ambulance SA will be onsite all afternoon, providing Health and Medical Services to help everyone enjoy the show safely. If you or someone nearby needs help, our friendly St John Ambulance team will be located strategically around the venue, including at our 5x Event Medical Centres, external locations and on the arena – don’t hesitate to come and see us.

Before you head to Adelaide Oval tonight, here are a few important things to remember:

✅ Bring your regular medications – if you take prescribed medication, make sure you have it with you and take it as usual.
💧 Keep hydrated – concerts can get hot and crowded, so make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the night.
🤝 Look after your mates – stick together, keep an eye out for each other, and check in if someone’s not feeling right.

We're there for you if you need us - reach out to the friendly Adelaide Oval Staff or SRS Security Team who can point you in the right direction.

On Saturday 18 October 2025, we proudly held our annual St John Ambulance SA Awards Ceremony at the Adelaide Pavilion, a beautiful setting for such a significant celebration. We thank the venue team for their support on the day.

We were honoured to have Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC DStJ, Governor of South Australia and Deputy Prior of St John SA, join us and present awards to our team. Thank you also to Senior Kaurna man Robert Taylor for his warm and personal Welcome to Country, and to our emcee, 7NEWS Adelaide journalist Jasmin Teurlings, whose professionalism and energy helped bring the event to life.

The ceremony recognised extraordinary commitment across our organisation, with service ranging from 10 to an incredible 60 years of volunteering. Awards were presented across Operations, Community Services, Training, Youth and Staff, highlighting the wide reaching impact of our work and our people.

This year holds special significance as we celebrate both 140 years of St John in South Australia and 100 years of our Youth Development Program nationally.

Reflecting on the achievements celebrated on the day, our Chair, Mary Patetsos, shared:

'Across our organisation, the common thread has always been people. The ones who put on a uniform, teach a class, respond to a call, comfort a stranger, guide a young person, or support an older member of our community. Each contribution is a stitch in the fabric of who we are. None of that happens alone. Thank you for everything you have given, and everything you continue to give. Enjoy this moment. You’ve earned it.'

To all our award recipients, and to those who could not attend, we celebrate you, we thank you, and we recognise everything you do.
