Dandelion Naturopathy

Dandelion Naturopathy Naturopathic consultations by practitioner Gemma Shanahan. Thanks to my Mother’s influence, I have had a keen interest in health and wellbeing from a young age.

My name is Gemma Shanahan and I have a Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy from Endeavour College of Natural Health. My passion is in Naturopathy and natural health and I love empowering people by assisting them to uncover the causes of their health challenges. The most fulfilling part is being able to support and facilitate their journey towards optimal health and wellbeing. I am also a member of the National Herbalists Association of Australia (NHAA). As a naturopath, I see the body as a whole system and treat each client as an individual on their health journey. I focus on unearthing the cause of people’s health issues and creating specific and individualised treatment plans to best suit each person. I am a strong believer in educating clients to become a student of their own health! My goal is to support you to reach your health goals and dreams through bringing the body back into balance and to provide you with the tools, knowledge and strategies to continue to maintain these goals independently after your treatment period at Dandelion Naturopathy. I also abide by the Six Naturopathic Principles, which govern how I practice, in addition to the Naturopathic Therapeutic Order, which ensuring the lowest forces of intervention that is required for client treatment is used to gain maximum benefit. The common Dandelion, Latin name Taraxacum officinale, is a herb (also sometimes called a pest) and is hands down my favourite! Its main affinity is for the liver. So no points for guessing how I came up with the name Dandelion Naturopathy! In our modern society and way of living, we are exposed to a number of pollutants and chemicals in the atmosphere and in our foods, which our liver has to detoxify to remove from our bodies. What captivates me the most about Dandelion, is that it grows all over the place and is often called a w**d and yet it is such a powerful herb and not to be underestimated. 🌼

So it’s been a long time since I have been on the social media train...

Like many of us, I’ve also had a number of personal life changes happening, dealing with the craziness of 2020, moving, working a lot between 3 jobs and my business, planning and just starting to build a house (where my new clinic space will live!!) and the list goes on. As I’ve said before, for me, posting updates takes a fair bit of time and energy to consider and put together. And in all honesty I’ve been spending my business hours focussing on what’s important = my clients. And I feel so grateful that I have been able to support so many people on their health journeys no matter how big or small! It is truly an honour.

This also translates into the way I practice naturopathy. I don’t just spend time with you during your consult. I’m planning, mapping, researching and combing through all the information I’ve collected to support YOU and gather the specific ingredients I need to formulate a treatment plan that is uniquely for you as a whole.

So instead of feeling like I’m letting myself down for not being very active in the land of social media, I’m choosing to reframe this to: I’m doing the best I can with the time I have and putting my clients first.

In conclusion, 2020 may not have been my year to master social media and 2021 may not be either! But when the time is right, I know that I will be able to stay true to my values while giving it a red hot go. So keep an eye out as I might surprise you with the odd post here and there once my life starts to get some normality and rhythm back! 🌼
