Caring for an older parent can be meaningful, and it can also be tiring in ways people do not always see. If you are supporting a parent through aging, a few simple steps can make day to day life safer and more manageable.

𝟭) 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆
Regular meals, hydration, gentle movement, and consistent sleep and wake times can support mood, energy, and overall wellbeing.

𝟮) 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆
Pay attention to changes in balance, sleep, appetite, memory, mood, or pain. If something seems different, write it down and raise it with their GP. Early action often prevents bigger setbacks.

Loneliness and social isolation are linked with poorer health outcomes. Short, regular visits or calls, shared meals, and gentle outings can make a real difference.

Most people talk about massage as stress relief or pain relief.

That is true, but it is not the whole story.

Massage can also help you reconnect with your body.

Many of us spend the day in our heads. We think, plan, scroll, and push through. The body becomes something we carry from one task to the next, and we only notice it when something hurts.

Research calls our inner body awareness interoception. It is your ability to notice signals like tension, breathing changes, fatigue, hunger, and the first signs of feeling overwhelmed. Interoception is also connected to how we regulate stress and emotions.

When life is busy or stressful, these signals can get quieter or easier to ignore. You might miss what you need until you are already depleted.

Supportive touch can help bring that awareness back. Massage gives the nervous system steady, clear sensory input. For many people, that makes it easier to shift out of constant thinking and into simple noticing. You start to feel what is happening in your body, moment by moment.

In that sense, massage is not only about relaxing muscles. It can be practice for feeling present and grounded in your body again.
