Early days, but exciting research into concussions at the World Rugby level. Enjoy the ABC article on LED mouthguard detecting head impacts.

The Women's Rugby World Cup, currently being held in England, is trialling a revolutionary approach to concussion management. Players are wearing LED mouthguards which light up when a player sustains a hit that could result in a concussion.

Dr Dan Bastock was a UK medical student here last year doing a sports medicine elective at Wakefield Sports and Exercise Medicine Clinic. Dan just had an article published in the BASEM newsletter. Thanks for the mention, Dan. We've had a lot of local med students too and take extended skills registrars, so if sports medicine/MSK/exercise medicine interests you, give Wakefield a ring.

Concussion, Sports Technology and Psychology all put together in Sportal 24 https://events.humanitix.com/sportal-24-tgcyajbx - a Gather Round breakfast + half-day conference (all done by 11 am). I'm doing a concussion update based on the latest AIS updates for everyone working in a sports club, Sports Psychology by Jenny Williams OAM, linking head and heart for smart training and cutting-edge technology from Sportal to help your club's needs - Sportal's creator Darius Rafizadeh is an Electrical Systems Engineer who after seeing sports struggle with online platforms and current software, has developed a simple, safe digital environment that allows Sport to control all their data simply and securely. Sportal allows coaches to use technology to enhance training, make administration smoother, and make volunteering easier. Sportal provides a smart solution for clubs to increase revenue using the latest scoreboard and social engagement technology. See you there!

Great article in https://cosmosmagazine.com/health/body-and-mind/world-cup-cte/ as well

If the wet bulb temperature is over 30 then consider cancelling the event. Too hot! This is equivalent in SA to roughly 36 deg "normal " temp based on our usually low humidity. Wet bulb 26-29 means lots of drink breaks and 60 minutes or less of continuous exercise. The picture is Glenelg tonight. Very nice.
