Parent or Caregiver Burnout is real. Realising and admitting to those around you that you are in burnout might feel embarassing but....
'those that mind don't matter and those that matter don't mind'
Reaching burnout is nothing to be ashamed of. Especially when we have so many outside pressures that are out of our control. The cost of living constantly rising, the needs of our children and family's and not allowing time for our own self care are just a few of the reasons burnout can strike.
After receiving my ADHD diagnosis I began unmasking. While unmasking my ADHD traits my Autistic traits became more prominent. This is very common when receiving an adult ADHD diagnosis. Discovering and accommodating my AuDHD (ADHD and Autism) is extremely new and exhausting.
Doing all of this while having a lot of "first's" (first school camp, first market stall and first time grieving unmasked) last month pushed me to burnout.
But recognising it, giving myself some grace, reducing demands, asking for help and putting systems in place are helping me recover.
Have you experienced Parental or Caregiver Burnout? What helps you recover?
