Our Locum Program makes it possible for rural GPs to take a well-deserved break and grants are available to support your family’s transition to a rural community. RDWA’s SAVES program provides remote medical assistance by experienced rural GPs to patients and their local nurses in 34 participating rural hospitals across South Australia.

🟣 SpringBoard2026 brought together final-year allied health students and South Australian rural health employers to explore what a rural career can offer — and the support available in that first year of practice.

Through one-on-one chats and small group sessions, students connected with rural employers, hearing firsthand how rewarding rural health can be — both professionally and personally ✨

This week, the final term of Road to Rural Interns for 2025 commenced their rural rotations! 🩺

For interns based in metropolitan hospitals, the Road to Rural (R2R) Intern program is a valuable rural generalist experience early in their careers where they are an integral part of the rural health team and have a genuine opportunity to experience life in a rural community.

Before leaving for country, Interns attend an orientation session at RDWA run by RDWA EDMS, Dr Tim Kelly, and Dr Lisa Koo. This session prepares them for their 10-week rotation with a refresher on practical skills for general practice, an overview of what to expect in the local practice, and information about the support available to them during the term.

We wish them a great rural generalist experience!

📣Rural GP/RG Partner Grants open for application.

RDWA recognises the important role the partners of resident rural GPs, RGs and GP Registrars have in supporting them to deliver general practice and hospital services in rural South Australia.

Partners can access funding through RDWA's Rural GP/RG Partner Grant to undertake activities to strengthen their connections to their local communities.

Applications close 9am, Monday 1 December, 2025.

Yesterday, our Term 4 Road to Rural Interns commenced their rural rotations! 🩺

The R2R Intern program provides a valuable early career rural generalist (RG) clinical experience for interns based in metropolitan hospitals.

Interns attended an orientation session at RDWA run by RDWA EDMS, Dr Tim Kelly, and Dr Lisa Koo to help them prepare for their 10-week rotation with a refresher on practical skills for general practice, what to expect in their host practices, and to understand the support available to them.

We wish them a great rural generalist experience!
