Lymphoedema Awareness Month
March is recognised internationally as Lymphoedema Awareness Month — helping raise understanding of a condition that causes ongoing swelling due to disruption of the lymphatic system.
The lymphatic system is part of your body’s circulation and immune system. It helps move fluid around the body and remove waste and toxins from tissues.
Lymphoedema most commonly affects the arms or legs and may develop following cancer treatment, surgery, infection or other medical conditions. It can lead to persistent swelling, discomfort and changes in skin health.
While lymphoedema is not a heart condition, it relates closely to circulation and fluid balance within the body. Early recognition and appropriate management can help reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.
If you are experiencing ongoing or unexplained swelling, speak with your GP about assessment and support options.
This month highlights the importance of education, early intervention and coordinated care in managing chronic conditions affecting circulation.
