Have you heard about the 5-5-5 rule?
🔷Rest is incredibly important in the postpartum period and while I'm sure we can all agree that rest is important for recovery, the majority of families don't stress rest and instead try to bounce back.
🔸Lack of proper rest puts moms at greater risk for postpartum complications such as delayed healing, urinary tract infections, and postpartum anxiety or depression etc.
🔷In many cultures around the world, women are expected to just rest with baby, bond with baby, and not go anywhere for the first 40 days while their grandparents, neighbors and others in their “village” help out around the house. This is called the "sitting period".
🔸I’m not sure where the 5-5-5 rule came from, but many midwives, and doulas encourage following this 5-5-5 rule, which is 5 Days IN the bed or the couch, where you just focus on sleeping, resting, and bonding with your baby and doing lots of skin to skin.
🔷The next 5 days, being ON the bed/couch, is limited activity such as walking around the block but mostly resting on the couch or bed.
🔸The last 5 days being NEAR the bed, is doing light activity and maybe being away from the bed for 30minutes or so, but then resting.
🔷This two week period is very doable (when you can prep and line up the help) and I strongly recommend following this if not doing it longer. You should limit your visitors and really only invite visitors that are willing to help around the house.
🔸Your body heals best by resting, nourishing yourself with proper food and hydration, and reducing stress.
📣I go more in depth on this and HOW to delegate and PREPARE to rest in my Baby Ready course which closes for enrollment in 2 days!!! 🥳Join all the other pregnant moms in this 4 week group coaching course and program where you'll feel prepared, empowered, and confident going into the postpartum period! https://education.aloha-nutrition.com/baby-ready/
