A 51-year-old came in with worsening migraines, crushing fatigue, and weight gain.

That sudden dizzy rush when you jump out of a chair is called Orthostatic Hypotension—your blood pressure temporarily dips because gravity pulls blood away from your brain.

While it's usually harmless, it's annoying and sometimes scary! Here are three practical fixes to stop the head rush before it starts:

💧 Hydrate Before You Rise: Dehydration is the #1 trigger. Get up only after you’ve had a full glass of water, especially first thing in the morning.

🦵 The Pre-Stand Wiggle: Before standing, pump your calf muscles a few times (flexing your feet up and down). This engages the "muscle pump" to push blood back up towards your core and brain.

🐢 The Two-Step Rise: Never jump up. When sitting, pause for a few seconds before rising. When standing, pause and shift your weight before walking away. Slowing down gives your body time to stabilize blood flow.

Here’s the science of the Sugar-Anxiety Cycle:

The Spike: High-sugar foods cause your blood glucose to skyrocket. Your body releases a flood of insulin to bring it down fast.

The Crash: This rapid drop in blood sugar (hypoglycemia) mimics a stress response. Your body releases stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol to stabilize your blood sugar.
