A little bit about Denise
- I am passionate about supporting clients on their journey to better health and well-being. The
benefits of Massage Therapy along with its integrating therapeutic techniques are far greater than we are often aware of. Each client has an individual story and background and my aim is to tailor each treatment to the clients needs and goals. It is simply wonderful to see clients relaxed, to move
with more ease and stating that they are feeling empowered. In my free time I enjoy creative writing, painting and music and to adventure with my three
children, walking in nature with friends and bike riding. Yes to relaxing with a good book and my cup is full when there is tea in it :-)

LOVE THE CARBS!

At synergy64 we encourage all our clients to eat lots of carbohydrates. Yes protein & fat are nutrients but that’s only 2 out of our 6 food groups. Carbohydrates contain the other 4 - starch, calcium, fruits & vegetables.
Over 50% of Australians don’t get the required amount of fibre per day. Are we eating too much protein, fat & carbohydrates not containing fibre?

We believe that if you eat the required amount of fibre/day then that will crowd out too much of the other foods such as fat, protein & processed food (sugar).

How much fibre?
Men - 30g/day
Woman - 25g/day

How much do you get?

Congratulations Peter Hayes!
Peter just completed the 3 peaks falls creek challenge, which is a gruelling 231.3km bike ride with 3849.2m of climbing. It took 12 hours & 33 minutes which is 30m faster then his last attempt.
Peter trained hard in the lead up doing two strength training sessions/week at Synergy64 & 2-3 hill rides a week.
Peter is in his 60s, runs a business but still finds time to exercise. Another great client who sets goals & achieves them. Well done Peter!

PROTEIN

Is essential in building lean muscle mass and repairing damaged muscle tissue from high intensity training.

Do you get your protein from the same source or are you eating a wide range of different foods containing protein?

Protein is made up of 22 different AMINO ACIDS , 9 of which can't be manufactured by our bodies. These essential amino acids we need to source from food.

A COMPLETE protein is a food that contains all 9 of the essential amino acids. See diagram

However we can also combine different protein food groups to cover all 9. This is called COMPLIMENTARY proteins.
For example:
Rice & beans
Spinach with almonds
Hummus with whole grain pita
Whole grain noodles with peanut sauce.

Animal proteins contain the amino acids that are higher in Sulfur- aspartic & glutamic acid. An excessive amount of these are acidic on the body.

Eating more plant based proteins helps you achieve more nutrition by increasing the amount of other vitamins, minerals & fibre.

At synergy64 we recommend you plan your meals & plan to eat a wide variety of different proteins from plants & animals.

Welcome Rowena Yeomans

Rowena is accredited Exercise Physiologist and has now started working at Synergy64.

Rowena is the Director of Move Exercise Therapy and brings a wealth of knowledge as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with ten years’ experience working in clinical exercise physiology, corporate health and occupational rehabilitation.
Rowena first became interested in exercise and sports science when training in her pet event, the 100m hurdles, which saw her compete at a national level for several years. Rowena undertook a Bachelor in Applied Science (Human Movement & Health Studies) to obtain her Accreditation status as an Exercise Physiologist. Rowena has also undertaken further study to broaden her skills with an undergraduate degree majoring in Psychology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Rehabilitation. Rowena is particularly passionate about women’s health and providing comprehensive and outcome driven exercise physiology services to assist individuals to maximise their health and lifestyle no matter their medical condition.

What injury/condition do you like to treat/manage?

I enjoy working with individuals undergoing or recovering from the rigors associated with cancer treatments. It is such an incredibly stressful time in an individual’s life and providing them with the tools to manage their symptoms to maximise their chances of survivourship and quality of life is extremely rewarding.

What is your favourite type of exercise?

Oh this is hard! It really depends on my mood. Generally speaking I love training with free weights, it is such a great feeling to be strong and makes completing chores around the house easier. On days when I am feeling stressed I do like to get outside in the parklands to do repeat sprints at various distances. There is nothing like fresh air, sunlight and green grass to put everything into perspective again.

Favourite muscle of the body?

The gluteus maximus! Who would have thought that this muscle could be implicated in the prevention and management of so many other musculoskeletal injuries. Nothing wrong with having a strong backside.

Go to naughty food?

I would not say no to roasted almond dark chocolate and a lovely glass of champagne.

Hobbies?

I am a big nerd so reading it is.

Please contact synergy64 if you would like to book a session with Rowena or if you know some one who could benefit from her services.
