Part 4 The Keeper: Making Space for a New Kind of Woman

As I’ve been exploring feminine archetypes, one voice really stood out—Nicole Sallak Anderson, who introduced a powerful fourth archetype: The Keeper.

Traditionally, we’ve had the Maiden, Mother, and Crone. In a previous post, I also explored the emerging Maga archetype—the woman in her autumn years, transitioning from mothering toward elderhood. All of these roles were shaped largely around fertility, caregiving, and family. And for centuries, that made sense. A woman’s life was deeply tied to reproduction.

But things have changed.

With reproductive freedom, longer life spans, and more social independence, many women today don’t fit neatly into these roles.
What about the woman who doesn’t have children—by choice or by circumstance?

What about the woman who pours her energy into a career, community, creative calling, or healing work instead of motherhood?

This is where the Keeper steps in.

She’s not a mother, and she’s not yet a Crone. She’s in her power—gaining or already grounded in wisdom, experience, and self-awareness. The Keeper is a woman who tends to the world in her own way. She may be a leader, healer, artist, teacher, or advocate. She gives deeply—not by raising children, but by shaping the world around her with care, purpose, and intention.

In many ways, she is a modern-day guardian.

She holds space. She keeps the balance. She protects what matters.
And she does it all without needing to conform to the old models of womanhood.

I love that Nicole described the Keeper as part hero, part manager—a woman who asks, “What needs my energy now?” and offers it freely.

This archetype really resonates with me. And I wonder if it does for you too.

✨ Have you ever felt like you didn’t fit into the Maiden–Mother–Crone cycle?
✨ Do you see yourself—or someone you know—in the Keeper?
✨ Have you come across similar ideas under a different name? If so, I’d love to see the link!

Part 3
Meet the Maga: The Forgotten Archetype of a Woman’s Autumn 🍂

The Maga is the woman in her autumn years—the golden phase after mothering, but before Crone. She has done the hard work. Now it’s time to harvest her wisdom, joy, and purpose.

Her children may be grown. Life is quieter. The caregiving role has eased…
And now what?

Some women feel lost here. Unsure. Grieving who they were.
But this isn’t the end. It’s a beginning.

✨ The Maga is rising.
She is wiser, stronger, more confident.
She is finally choosing herself.

She may no longer birth children, but she births ideas, creations, and community.
She rediscovers her sensuality. Her creativity. Her power.

She is not yet a Crone—she’s still in the world, vibrant and needed.
She leads with truth, compassion, and heart.

To all the Magas out there:
This is your season.
Own it. Embrace it.
Let yourself bloom in ways you never have before. 🌹

👉 Do you feel like you’re in your Maga years?
How has this phase surprised, challenged, or awakened you?

Let’s open the conversation. 💬

Part 2 Where the Archetypes Fall Short: A Conversation Worth Having
In my last post, we looked at the ancient feminine archetypes—Maiden, Mother, and Crone—and how they’ve helped shape our understanding of womanhood for centuries.
But as powerful as these symbols are, they don’t quite fit every woman’s story today.
Life isn’t always linear. And womanhood certainly isn’t one-size-fits-all.
What if you never become a mother? What if your most powerful, creative years begin at 50 or 60? What if you don’t see yourself in any of the old labels?
The original archetypes come from a time when a woman’s role was closely tied to fertility and domestic life. But things have changed. Many women today are child-free, career-focused, spiritually awakened later in life, or living entirely outside those old milestones.
That’s where the archetypes fall short—they don’t always reflect the richness, complexity, or choice we have now.
So… what might a more inclusive map look like?
In my next post, I’ll share two newer archetypes that offer a fresh take on who we are and who we’re still becoming.
But for now, I’d love to hear from you:
Do the traditional archetypes reflect your journey—or do you feel something’s missing?
Let’s talk.

Reimagining the Archetypes: Maiden, Mother, Crone – and Beyond

Most of us have heard of the ancient feminine archetypes: the Maiden, Mother, and Crone. These timeless symbols have guided women's stories for centuries—marking a journey from youth, to motherhood, to wise elderhood.

But how can we keep following an ancient map when the lives of women have changed so dramatically?

In the past, being born female often meant early marriage, motherhood by 14, and becoming a grandmother by 30. Many women didn’t live past 45.

Fast forward to today, and women have greater freedom than ever. We can choose education, careers, independence—and when or whether to marry or have children. The introduction of the contraceptive pill in the 1960s was a turning point, allowing women to take charge of their own timelines. The fight for equality continues, but the experience of being a woman is no longer bound by the same roles or expectations.

So, is it time to rethink the archetypes?

The Maiden, Mother, and Crone still carry meaning—but do they reflect the complexity of the modern woman?

A new archetype that’s been gaining recognition is the Maga—a powerful phase marking the transition from Mother to Crone. But there's still an important group of women who are often left out of the narrative.

What about those who don’t have children—by choice or by circumstance?

What about the women who prioritised careers, creativity, or other paths over motherhood?

Who represents them?

Ladies let’s open this conversation. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do these ancient archetypes still speak to you—or is it time to expand the trio into a circle of five?
