Hey herd! Iti here 🦏 ready to stomp through another question in my advice column. The first question for 2026 comes from Mick:

🗨️ "Do my support workers need to have an NDIS worker screening check?"

Oh Mick, you’ve got a good horn on your head asking that! 👏

If your support workers are with a registered NDIS provider and their job involves direct support or decision making, they must have an NDIS Worker Screening Check. It’s like a rhino checkpoint, making sure everyone’s safe before charging ahead. 🚧

When you're plan managed (or for anyone that self manages their plan), you can use unregistered providers, and there’s no rule that says they need to have a clearance.

You can check with your provider or on the NDIS Quality & Safeguards Commission website whether or not your provider is registered, then you'll know if they require it.

But even for unregistered providers, you can absolutely choose workers with a clearance for extra peace of mind. The NDIS Commission gives that a big horns up (or thumbs up, if you prefer)! 👍

Bottom line: you deserve safe, trusted support. The check isn’t always required, but if it gives you peace of mind, go for it! Your NDIS safari, your rules. 🙎‍♂️
