Flu season is upon us again. Influenza vaccination is especially important for some people. While it may be a mild disease for some, it can also cause serious sickness and lead to hospitalisation, even in healthy people.
The flu vaccine is strongly recommended and free under the NIP for the following people most at risk of complications from influenza:
· Children aged 6 months to less than 5 years
· Pregnant women for every pregnancy and at any stage of pregnancy
· Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
· People aged 65 years and over
· People aged 6 months and over with certain medical conditions.
The 2026 Australian influenza program, targeting a high caseload and a new "Super-K" strain, features updated trivalent vaccines and introduces needle-free nasal spray vaccines (https://www.google.com/search?q=FluMist...) for children aged 2–5 yrs

Keith's been thriving since joining our Social Prescription program in Agnes Water! ✨

The initiative is all about strengthening Discovery Coast residents’ wellbeing, resilience and community connection through individualised, non-clinical support.

Since Keith's wife moved into a nursing home more than six hours away, he's been struggling with low mood, grief and social isolation, making him the perfect fit for the Social Prescription program.

Driving it all is our Community Coach, Carlye, who gently encouraged Keith to get out and about in his picturesque community to walk his beloved dog, Jackie. 🐶

Keith, who has several chronic health conditions, now meets Carlye at the gate of his home every week with a lead in hand, ready to walk and talk on the beach. 🏖️

It's been a huge success, with Keith rejoining a local cards group, befriending a new local, joining a coffee and chat group, and attending Impact Community Health Service - Discovery Coast's Up and Active over 50s exercise sessions.

At 74, Keith has found a new lease on life. We can't wait to see his positivity continue to flourish! 🙌
