Heavy rainfall increasing in North Queensland again.

After some heavy falls over the last couple of days rainfall eases back slightly for the tropical coast, with scattered showers expected to continue but because of the renewed development potential from Tropical Low 18U, far northwestern Queensland may be looking at some heavy falls this weekend.

Forecast models have just jumped on board with the potential for the low to strengthen this weekend as it moves south of Mornington Island, however regardless of development heavy rainfall in these areas can be expected.

Falls between 100-250mm increasing to as much as 400mm in a few spots closer to the coast are possible, which is a big concern for these areas currently still facing significant flooding. It is too early to say exactly what areas are going to see what rainfall, but it is safe to assume some moderate to locally heavy falls around Normanton, Burketown, Gregory and Domadgee are likely.

North Queensland is waking up to patchy flooding this morning after 200-300mm falls overnight on the Cassowary Coast.

A convergence zone developed late the previous night and strengthened through Australia Day, bringing steady moderate rainfall from Tully south to Townsville.

Rain intensified overnight with some locations recording 200–300mm, leading to minor flooding along the Herbert River and at Dalrymple Creek (which floods frequently), and as such take care around swollen waterways and whilst driving today.

Flooding is not expected to get much worse, but it's a great example of how a relatively insignificant drop in NQLD can bring some significant water rises, once the catchments are saturated. Cheers Josh.

VALE June Setter.
June was a natural healer with a wonderful nature that put people at ease. Her manner relieved pain as much as her hands. June ran Setters Health Centre from Ingham 1996-2003 and Ayr 1995-1998 and worked with Benjamin in Setters Health Centre Townsville from 1994 until her retirement in 2017. Here at Setters Pain Relief we still have clients come to us whose mothers brought them to see June and they are bringing their children to see Benjamin. June touched so many people’s lives and provided comfort and ease with her presence and her healing. She will be missed.

Gravesite ceremony at 10.30 am Thursday 22/1/26 at Belgian Gardens Cemetery, 62 Evans Street, Belgian Gardens followed by a celebration of June’s life at the RSL Townsville, 139 Charters Towers Road, Hyde Park from 11.30am.

Wearing something tartan would be appreciated.
