Should you get a scan for knee pain? 🤔

It’s a really common question we hear in clinic.

The truth is not all knee pain needs a scan.
In many cases, a thorough assessment by a physiotherapist can tell us more about what’s going on than an MRI or X-ray.

Scans can sometimes show things like meniscus tears, cartilage wear, or degeneration, but these findings are also very common in people without pain.

What matters most is:
✅ How your knee moves
✅ What activities aggravate it
✅ Strength and control around the joint
✅ Your goals and lifestyle

At Three Pillar Health, we use a hands-on assessment and evidence-based approach to decide whether imaging is actually helpful, or whether we can start helping you move and feel better right away.

If you’ve been dealing with persistent knee pain, a physio assessment is often the best first step.

“I’ve got arthritis in my knee… does that mean it will only get worse?” 🤔

This is one of the most common questions we hear in clinic.

The good news is that knee osteoarthritis doesn’t automatically mean ongoing decline or that you need to stop being active.

Research consistently shows that the most effective treatments are often simple:
✔ Regular movement
✔ Strengthening exercises
✔ Gradual activity progression
✔ Learning how to manage flare-ups

With the right approach, many people can reduce pain, improve function, and keep doing the things they enjoy.

If knee pain has been holding you back, there may be more you can do than you think.

Save this post so you can come back to these strategies later.

📍 If you’d like guidance with managing knee osteoarthritis, our team at Three Pillar Health is here to help.
