It’s not always easy to tell whether you’ve got a cold or the flu, especially in the early stages. Colds tend to come on gradually with a runny nose, sore throat, and mild fatigue, while the flu usually hits harder and faster - often with fever, body aches, and a real “knocked around” feeling. Rest, fluids, and time help most people recover, but if symptoms are severe or not improving, it’s worth checking in with your GP. Give us a call, or book online via https://www.hotdoc.com.au/medical-centres/albany-creek-QLD-4035/albany-clinic/doctors - and remember, if you have Covid, please stay at home.

Staying active doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym or running long distances. Everyday activities like walking the dog, gardening, or even a gentle stretch at home all count. Regular movement can boost your mood, improve sleep, and support your overall health. The key is finding something you enjoy and making it part of your routine - even small steps can add up over time. What is your favourite activity to get those extra steps in?

If you take regular medications, it’s easy to just keep going without reviewing them - but your needs can change over time. A medication review is a chance to make sure everything you’re taking is still necessary, working well, and not causing unwanted side effects. It’s also a great time to ask questions or raise any concerns. Think of it as a routine check to keep everything on track. Feeling tired all the time isn’t something you just have to “put up with.” While busy lives and stress can definitely play a role, ongoing fatigue can sometimes be linked to things like low iron, thyroid issues, poor sleep quality, or other health concerns.

If you’re waking up tired or running out of energy during the day, it might be worth looking into. A simple check-up can often point us in the right direction - give us a call, or book an appointment online via https://www.hotdoc.com.au/medical-centres/albany-creek-QLD-4035/albany-clinic/doctors

Kids are wonderful at sharing - unfortunately, that includes coughs, colds, and everything in between! It’s completely normal for children to pick up frequent bugs, especially in daycare or school settings. Simple habits like handwashing, covering coughs, and keeping unwell kids at home can make a big difference for everyone. And if you’re ever unsure whether it’s something more than “just a bug,” we’re here to take a look and give you peace of mind - we offer priority same-day appointments for sick children under 5 years of age.

We often think about staying hydrated in the heat, but it’s just as important during cooler months. When it’s not as hot, we tend to feel less thirsty and can forget to drink enough throughout the day.

Signs of dehydration can include headaches, low energy, dry skin, or even trouble concentrating. Keeping a water bottle nearby or having a glass of water with each meal can be an easy way to stay on track.

This year’s World Hearing Day focuses on childhood hearing health – a campaign aiming to prevent avoidable childhood hearing loss, and to encourage early identification and quality treatment.

After an initial hearing test at birth, it’s important to check in with your child’s GP, paediatrician or children’s health clinic if you have concerns about their hearing.

We recently came together as a team to celebrate Dr Andrew Murray's retirement. For almost 40 years, Dr Murray has been a constant presence in our clinic and our community - caring for generations of patients, building lasting relationships, and creating a practice where people felt genuinely known and looked after.

While we will miss him enormously, we're so grateful for everything he's given to Albany Clinic and to the many people whose lives he's touched. Wishing him all the very best as he steps into retirement, and thanking him for a remarkable legacy that we are incredibly proud to continue.

February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Each year, around 1,800 Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, with the majority being diagnosed in the later stages of the disease.

Unfortunately, reliable screening tests are limited, which is why it is important to regularly visit your GP to monitor for potential signs, especially in those with a family history of the disease.

If you’d like to discuss any concerns, or check your risk, please call us on 3264 2622 to organise an appointment with one of our GPs.
