Three of the best at Live Lighter Aged Care Games 🥇

Our three Clarence teams - the Clarence Cheetahs (Residential), the Clarence Conquerors (Albany Home Care), and the Denmark Diamonds (Denmark Home Care), proudly represented Clarence Estate at this year’s Live Lighter Games at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre.

For our Clarence Estate Cheetahs, this year was extra special. After many years of health restrictions keeping our residential consumers from competing, they finally made their long-awaited return, and they came back with huge smiles, plenty of spirit, and a name with a bit of history.

The “Cheetahs” nickname comes from an old rumour that we were once caught “cheating” (cue the eye roll), but this year they showed nothing but teamwork, enthusiasm, and positivity.

Our Clarence Conquerors from the Albany Community Centre have competed in previous years and once again did us proud, securing second place overall! The excitement from everyone involved was brilliant.

Our Denmark Diamonds, also from our Home Care program, returned to the Games and put in an amazing effort, showing great sportsmanship, energy, and plenty of laughs.

Across all three Clarence teams, there was plenty of friendly banter, and good times from start to finish. The event included chair hockey, pass ball, beanbag
toss, and skittles, with teams rotating through each challenge to take on all their rivals.

Everyone enjoyed a shared Subway-and-chips lunch between events, keeping everyone fuelled and ready for the next round.

Before presentations, the staff took to the floor for a special event, and it was hilarious! Plenty of laughs were had by everyone watching, and it added a
perfect, light-hearted finish to an already fantastic day.

A huge well done to all involved in organising such a well-run and inclusive event for older people across the Great Southern.

John's birthday marked in style 🎉

In November, we proudly celebrated John Stephens' 90th Birthday with a lovely morning tea.

A big thank you to Bev for providing a delicious cake enjoyed by all, and a special
highlight was having John's son join us for the occasion.

A simple celebration for a remarkable milestone.

Pony pats bring all the smiles 🐴

The day before the Melbourne Cup, our residents were treated to a delightful visit from two very special guests, miniature ponies Milly and Spike from Promotional Ponies.

Residents gathered in the House 4/5 courtyard to meet the adorable duo, enjoying plenty of pats, smiles, and photo opportunities. Afterwards, Milly and Spike took a stroll around Clarence Estate, stopping by to visit residents in their homes and bringing plenty of joy along the way. After all, it’s not every day you turn a corner and find a horse in your house!

We’d like to extend a big thank you to Promotional Ponies for making this wonderful visit possible. It was a memorable day filled with laughter and plenty of happy faces, the perfect lead-up to Melbourne Cup Day!

Colour and Canvas in spades 🎨

This month’s Colour and Canvas sessions at both Denmark and Albany Home Care Centres were yet again a hit!

In Denmark, participants were guided to paint charming gnomes, while Albany clients enjoyed choosing from a selection of designs to create their own masterpieces. Both sessions were guided by our own Bethanie Christie, ensuring plenty of creativity, laughter, and colourful results.

A reminder: November will be the final session for 2025, with the program resuming in February 2026.

We can’t wait to see what our artists create next year!

Boobie toss for a good cause 🥰

Things got a little cheeky (in the best way) at Clarence Estate as our staff and clients came together to support Breast Cancer Awareness. A fun day for a serious cause.

Everyone was encouraged to wear pink, and our community certainly delivered! Clients walked into a beautifully decorated room, complete with a photo backdrop (pictured opposite in full use!), all thanks to our very own Tammy Smit, who put her creative touch into making the space special.

Throughout the morning, laughter filled the room as clients enjoyed a round of “Boobie Toss” using crocheted bo***es - because let’s face it, we’re all adults here, and sometimes a good laugh is the best way to start meaningful conversations.

The day wasn’t just about pink outfits and fun games, it was about starting conversations around breast cancer awareness, encouraging everyone to talk openly, support each other, and keep the message going all year round.

A big thank you to everyone who joined in, had a laugh, and helped shine a light on such an important cause.

All aboard the Mt Barker Cycling Without Age bikes 🚴

We were thrilled to be invited by the newly opened Cycling Without Age branch in Mount Barker to join these volunteers for a scenic ride around town on their piloted bikes. With the gentle guidance of their 'pilots', our clients enjoyed a fresh perspective of familiar streets, discovering little nooks and sights they had never noticed before!

The rides sparked plenty of conversation and shared stories, making it as much about connection and memories as it was about the journey itself.

Even better, the Cycling Without Age volunteers are keen to make this a monthly outing, giving rides to our clients on the first day of each month. A huge thank you to the volunteers for making this wonderful opportunity happen.

We look forward to the next ride!

Annual Spring Fair raises $1500 for charity 👛

Our annual Clarence Estate Spring Fair was once again a wonderful success! Despite competing with several larger events across the Great Southern, our smaller community fair shone bright with great vibes, friendly faces, and plenty of fun for all.

Visitors enjoyed delicious Devonshire teas, the ever-popular legendary cake stall, BBQ, an array of craft and market stalls, white elephant stall (run by FOCE), exciting raffles, and a lively kids’ corner filled with colouring, craft, and also lawn games on offer.

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day possible. Our generous sponsors for their donations, the stall holders who gave up their weekend to join us and share their goodies, and most importantly, our incredible staff and volunteers (with special mention to our Friends of Clarence Estate Support Group) whose efforts behind the scenes made everything run smoothly.

Without you, this event simply wouldn’t happen.

We are proud to announce that the Friends of Clarence Estate fundraised a total of $1525.70 to go towards supporting residents and clients between residential services and day centre.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, supported us, and helped make the day what it was, your support never goes unnoticed.

Happy birthday, dear Gerard! 🎂

In October, a birthday morning tea at Clarence Estate was made extra special as we joined together to acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Staff and residents were invited to wear pink, brightening the room and sparking meaningful conversations around this important cause.

Among the celebrations, we had the absolute honour of marking a remarkable milestone. Gerard Lanigan’s 100th birthday! Surrounded by his loving family and many Clarence Estate friends, Gerard’s big day was filled with joy, laughter, and... cake!

It was a wonderful morning of connection, colour, and community spirit, celebrating both awareness and an incredible century of life.

Fish n Chips n Fishability fun 🐟

Our residents braved a brisk Albany morning this month for a fishing adventure down at Emu Point Jetty, and what a morning it was! With rods in hand and a few extra layers to keep warm, everyone was in fine spirits as the Fishability volunteers lent a hand, offering tips, encouragement, and plenty of laughs along the way.

There were a few good tugs on the lines (and even better stories about the “one that got away”!), but the real catch of the day was the smiles all round.

After the action on the jetty, the crew topped off the outing with a serve of fish and chips from The Squid Shack, enjoying a feed while taking in the beautiful coastal views.

A big thank you to Fishability and everyone who joined us.

Fascinating fascinators for Cup Day 👒

In the lead up to Melbourne Cup Day, Clarence Estate community clients created their own fascinators, using headbands, fake flowers, feathers, and anything else they fancied.

Each design was unique, colourful, and ready to make a statement on race day!

Floral Art Group in full bloom 🌸

We were lucky enough to welcome the Albany Floral Art Group into both our Clarence Estate Residential Home and Home Care building recently, where they guided our consumers and clients through creating stunning floral designs.

Each participant had the chance to get creative and hands-on, crafting their own beautiful arrangements under the group’s expert guidance. The room was soon filled with colour and that fresh garden fragrance we all love!

All the flowers and greenery were very generously donated by the Albany Floral Art Group, lovingly gathered straight from their own gardens. Their kindness and creativity brought so much joy to everyone involved.

A huge thank you to the group for taking the time out of their day to visit both our locations. We’re already looking forward to your next visit and the next burst of blooms you bring with you!
