Are you wondering whether ADHD is considered a mental health diagnosis or if it falls into a different category?

ADHD should often compared to being left-handed, as it is simply a subcategory of brain type rather than a mental health diagnosis. Just as being left-handed is a variation in how your brain is wired for motor skills, ADHD is a variation in how your brain processes information and regulates attention and behaviour. This means that you have a brain that functions differently from those that are neurotypical, but it does not necessarily classify as a mental health disorder.

Did you know that a fever is actually a good thing when you’re sick? 🤒

While it may not feel great, a fever is your body’s way of fighting off infection and other illnesses. 🦠🔥

When your body temperature rises, it creates an environment that is hostile to bacteria and viruses, which can help your immune system to fight off the infection more effectively. 🦾💪

So next time you’re feeling under the weather, don’t be so quick to reach for the fever-reducing medication. Let your body do its thing and help you get back to feeling your best. Of course, if your fever gets too high or lasts for an extended period of time, it’s always a good idea to seek medical attention. 🩺👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️

Here are 6 fun facts about why the gut is called our second brain:

1. The gut contains over 100 million neurons, which is more than the spinal cord and peripheral nervous system combined.
2. The enteric nervous system, which controls the gut, can operate independently of the brain and spinal cord.
3. The gut produces over 90% of the body's serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that regulates mood and anxiety.
4. The gut and the brain are connected by the vagus nerve, which sends signals in both directions.
5. Some gut bacteria can produce neurotransmitters, like GABA and dopamine, that affect brain function.
6. Research has shown that the gut microbiome can influence our mood, behaviour, and cognitive function.

The gut-brain axis refers to the bidirectional communication between the gut microbiome and the brain. This means that the bacteria in our gut can influence our brain function, and vice versa. The gut-brain axis plays an important role in various bodily functions, including digestion, immune system regulation, and even mood and behaviour.

- The gut-brain axis has been linked to various mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety.
- The gut-brain axis is influenced by many factors, including diet, stress, and medications.
- Probiotics and prebiotics can help support a healthy gut microbiome and promote a healthy gut-brain axis.
- The gut-brain axis is being studied for its potential role in the development of Parkinson's disease and other neurological disorders.
- The gut-brain axis has been dubbed the "second brain" due to the large number of neurons in the gut.

Still not convinced the gut and brain are connected? Book a free discovery call with me and let’s hash it out. Link in bio. 🧠💩
