RVTS Workshop 📍Hyatt, Sydney

Last year at our Brisbane workshop, Dr Sarah Rodgers and her supervisor Dr Liam Weber spoke with The Medical Republic about what makes RVTS training different.

For Sarah and Liam, RVTS stands out for its tailored support and safe, supportive learning environment — even when working across distance. That’s exactly what RVTS workshops are designed to support.

Our RVTS Workshop on March 9-12 at the Hyatt, Sydney brings registrars and supervisors together for hands-on learning, shared experience and connection — the in-person moments that strengthen relationships and support distance training throughout the year.

We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to Sydney!

Thinking about where your GP training could take you?

Through RVTS Targeted Recruitment, we partner with eligible locations to support recruitment into rural and remote areas with high workforce need — places where you can grow your skills, provide continuity of care, and build a meaningful life alongside your medical practice.

As Dr Rachel shares from her experience, working in a smaller community can mean strong local services, experienced colleagues with broad skill sets, and the support of a hospital system where there is always someone to call. It is also about knowing your patients beyond a diagnosis and being able to care for the whole person over time.

With targeted recruitment, doctors can train toward Fellowship while staying in one place, supported by RVTS, and becoming part of the community they serve.

We are currently recruiting for multiple locations across Australia, including 9 new targeted recruitment sites.

We’re proud to see RVTS graduate Dr Tim Robinson recognised for his outstanding contribution to rural healthcare.

Tim completed his training with RVTS in 2025 and has since been awarded Rural Community Research Project of the Year for his innovative work at Badu Island Primary Health Care Centre. His community project focused on improving access to culturally safe, community-led GP services by bringing care directly to people, helping overcome geographic and social barriers.

This recognition highlights the impact rural doctors can have when training is grounded in community need and continuity of care.

Congratulations, Tim, on this well-deserved achievement.

Rural practice can be incredibly rewarding, both professionally and personally.

For many doctors, working in a smaller community means a better balance between work and life. It is a chance to build strong connections, enjoy more time with family, and raise kids in a supportive environment where life feels a little more connected.

Through RVTS, doctors can train toward Fellowship while continuing to care for their community and build a lifestyle that works for them and their families.

For many doctors working in rural and remote settings, training can feel isolating. RVTS exists to change that.

Through structured education, dedicated supervisors and educators, and a strong peer network, RVTS supports doctors to train toward Fellowship while staying in their communities — never feeling alone along the way.

When training is backed by genuine support, it builds confidence, connection, and capable doctors ready to serve where they’re needed most.
