Albury Wodonga Health

Albury Wodonga Health Australia's only cross-border health service, providing safe, connected care to Albury-Wodonga communities.

Albury Wodonga Health acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live and work. This land has never been ceded and always was and always will be Aboriginal land. We recognise the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. Albury Wodonga Health is a cross-border health service who provides a comprehensive and growing range of health services to the communities of Southern New South Wales and Northeast Victoria. Since our establishment in 2009, we have continued to evolve and bring more services closer to home for over 300,000 people. We have 24 sites across Albury, Wodonga, Beechworth, and Wangaratta, which enable us to deliver access to high-quality, safe and connected health care right here on the Border.

👋 Meet Michelle, one of our cancer services Registered Nurses who joined AWH with the transition of the in-patient ward and the chemotherapy unit.

Michelle has been working at the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre for five years already and is excited to be joining the AWH team!

She loves working in oncology and the patient centred care that she and her colleagues deliver at the Centre. She's also an avid fundraiser for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund! Her team, the Chemo Chicks, have sold earrings, tshirts, raffles, food drives and more to raise money for the Trust - even raising over $20,000 in one year! She loves the community driven atmosphere at the centre.

Michelle is passionate about regional communities getting great quality healthcare. She's looking forward to getting involved with the upcoming training and education opportunities at AWH, including linking in with our metro partners in cancer care.

Outside of work, you'll find her running or bushwalking, getting back to nature! Welcome Michelle, we're so glad to have you!

👋 Welcome to our biggest Mental Health Transition to Specialty Practice cohort ever!

We’re excited to welcome 13 new Mental Health and Allied Health clinicians to our Mental Health Transition to Specialty Practice program – the largest cohort we’ve ever had.

This group includes 8 Mental Health Registered Nurses, 2 Occupational Therapists and 3 Social Workers, all beginning a comprehensive two-year program across our Mental Health services.

The program includes rotations through Adult Acute and Continuing Care units and Specialist Community Mental Health teams, supported by structured education and workshops to build the skills needed to work confidently as mental health clinicians.

The cohort brings a fantastic mix of people - existing AWH staff upskilling, new graduates, and experienced health professionals - transitioning into mental health. A big welcome to those who have joined us from other health services and those who have relocated from Melbourne and Port Macquarie.

We’re thrilled to have you on board and can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make! 💚

👋 Meet one of our graduate nurses, Katherine Heather

A proud local, Katherine has been part of AWH for the past two years, starting her Enrolled Nurse graduate year in January 2024. After rotations in Medical Ward 2 and subacute, she stayed on in subacute through to January 2026 and is now taking the next step in her nursing career.

Based in Wodonga, Katherine completed her Bachelor of Nursing at La Trobe University (Albury–Wodonga) via the EN to RN transition pathway, balancing study with hands-on experience at AWH.

Her passion for caring for others began early through St John Ambulance cadets as a teenager, where her love for helping people first took shape. Starting out as a disability support worker and personal care assistant in aged care, she worked her way through her EN graduate year while studying to become a Registered Nurse — all with a long-term goal in mind: midwifery, a dream she’s held since becoming a nurse.

Staying at AWH was an easy decision. “This is my home and always will be — I have no intention of moving away to the big smoke,” Katherine said. After completing placements both locally and away, she says AWH stood out for the way staff supported her as a student and helped her build confidence and knowledge – an experience that’s kept her here.

As part of the RN program, Katherine is looking forward to building her clinical skills, ticking off competencies and growing in confidence. Her first rotation is in Wodonga Emergency Department, where she’s keen to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Her goal is simple but powerful: to be the very best nurse she can be.

Outside of work, Katherine switches off through her love of horses — recently returning to the sport after several years away — and archery, where she once placed second nationally.

We’re proud to support her next chapter at Albury Wodonga Health!

🥳 Great news for children and families across our region! 🥳

We’re proud to share that Albury Wodonga Health will benefit from new funding through this year’s Good Friday Appeal, helping strengthen paediatric care across Albury Wodonga and the broader Hume region.

As part of the 2026 regional funding program, more than 30 health services across regional Victoria and southern NSW will share in $3 million in community-raised funding, supporting more care for children and families, closer to home. 💜

For AWH, this funding will support investment in our people, services and equipment, helping our teams expand outpatient care and build skills through staff training.

This builds on the incredible impact of Good Friday Appeal support in previous years, including funding for vital paediatric equipment and programs like Paediatrics at the Child’s Home (PaTCH), allowing more children to receive hospital-level care at home.

A huge thank you to the Good Friday Appeal, the Royal Children's Hospital, the RCH Foundation, and to our amazing local fundraisers, volunteers and donors. 🙏

Three weeks ago, Matt couldn’t walk, use his arm properly, or communicate clearly.

After a stroke, he arrived at Albury Wodonga Health for inpatient rehab and was dependent on staff for almost everything.

Fast forward just 3 weeks and Matt is…

- Walking to the gym with a four-wheel walker
- Relearning everyday skills like making breakfast and getting dressed
- Regaining use of his hand through daily upper limb therapy
- Relearning how to spell, write and communicate through speech pathology

“I can walk now. I didn’t think that would happen so quickly,” Matt said.

This is what Allied Health does — in the most critical early weeks of recovery, when the right therapy, support and equipment can change everything.

When you take part in the SS&A City2City Run Walk, you’re helping fund Allied Health services that get people like Matt home sooner — stronger, more independent, and with hope.
