During the latter weeks of each of my pregnancies, I would diffuse lavender and Clary sage constantly, especially during meditation and practising my self-hypnosis in preparation for birth.
Little did I know back then, that I was re-wiring my nervous system and creating my own scent anchor for almost immediate relaxation.
These last couple weeks, I have been dealing with a fair bit of stress and my nervous system has been stuck on fight and flight for what feels like days!
I had done all my usual practices, along with some chiropractic work, and although it was working to drop me back into my parasympathetic nervous system, I could feel myself still struggling.
I found a bottle of Clary sage oil when cleaning up this morning and decided to pop some in the diffuser.
Almost immediately I could get the change.
💚My body and my muscles instinctively began to relax.
💚My breathing slowed and deepened. My breath was reaching my diaphragm and no longer just in my chest.
💚My mind quietened
💚Heck, I could even feel my gut switch on and start digesting my breakfast!
This is the power of hypnosis! Results still happen years later! I had practised it so much when I was pregnant, I literally changed the neural pathways in my brain so that every time I smell Clary sage my body instantly responds and begins to relax.
And this is why I love teaching hypnosis for birth, and why I know it works.
Hypnosis during labour, often used in Hypnobirthing, functions by consciously modulating the autonomic nervous system (ANS) to move the body out of a "fight-or-flight" state and into a "rest-and-digest" state.
Hypnobirthing deepens your relaxation, and helps you manage the physical and emotional challenges of labour and birth.
