Lung Cancer Awareness Month reminder: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Australia, but early detection dramatically improves survival. Symptoms include persistent cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing up blood, and unexplained weight loss. Don't ignore symptoms! Book an appointment with your GP immediately if you experience persistent respiratory symptoms, especially if you're a current or former smoker. Your GP can arrange chest X-rays, CT scans, and specialist referrals for early diagnosis and treatment.

Summer preparation: Heat-related illness increases during Australian summer. Older adults, young children, and people with chronic conditions are most vulnerable. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and know the warning signs of heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and headache. Book an appointment with your GP before summer if you have chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, or respiratory problems. Your GP can adjust medications affected by heat and provide strategies to stay safe during heatwaves.

World Antibiotic Awareness Week: Antibiotics are precious resources that only work against bacterial infections, not viruses like colds and flu. Overusing or misusing antibiotics leads to antibiotic resistance - one of the biggest threats to global health. Use them wisely! Book an appointment with your GP when you're unwell. Your GP will determine if antibiotics are needed or if your infection will resolve naturally. Always complete the full course prescribed, and never share or save antibiotics.
