TODAY WE TURN 3! 🎉🎂

Three years ago, Red Centre Health Focus opened its doors, and wow… what a ride it’s been!

From our humble beginnings on Railway Terrace to finding our home on Elder Street, these past three years have been full of growth, learning, and so many special moments.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we’ve been able to expand what we offer —
including opening Alice Springs’ first Recovery Centre.

None of this would have been possible without the trust, encouragement, and support of the people who walk through our doors every day.

Thank you for being part of our journey, celebrating the wins with us, and backing our local business.

We can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings!

Looking for a non-surgical option to tackle persistent pain when other treatments haven’t worked? Shockwave therapy might be worth considering.

This treatment uses focused acoustic waves to stimulate your body’s natural healing processes, increase blood flow, and reduce pain in tendons and muscles. It’s commonly used for conditions like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, and chronic tendon injuries.

Research shows shockwave therapy can effectively reduce pain and improve function. A 2017
study highlighted that shockwave therapy significantly decreased pain and improved quality of
life in patients with various tendinopathies, offering a safe, non-invasive alternative to surgery
(Dedes et al., 2017).

Usually delivered over 3-5 sessions, shockwave therapy lets you keep living your life without downtime and may help avoid more invasive treatments.

Ask a registered health professional if shockwave therapy is right for you.

Got jaw pain, clicking, or trouble opening your mouth? A TMJ (temporomandibular joint) assessment with a physiotherapist could be your first step to relief! We carefully check your jaw’s movement, muscle function, and joint health to pinpoint what’s causing your discomfort and tailor treatments just for you.

Why book an assessment? TMJ disorders are surprisingly common—current research
estimates nearly 30% of people experience signs or symptoms, especially pain-related ones
(CannatĂ  et al., 2025). These symptoms are often linked to stress, jaw clenching, and other
parafunctional habits. Early assessment helps guide effective treatment to reduce pain, improve
jaw mobility, and boost quality of life.

Don’t just grin and bear it—let us help your jaw feel its best!

Welcome to our January Newsletter. Issue #1

While the temperatures were climbing and the clinic aircons were working overtime, our team was busy making the most of the summer break.

From time off with family to a bit of travel, rest, and (yes) still some movement, we’re feeling refreshed and ready for the year ahead.

Philipe & his wife have been jetsetting around the globe to promote Leticia’s new book and they also participated in a Vipassana 10 day silent retreat in India.

Make sure you ask him all about it when he returns in March!

Evie spent time away interstate with family. She fixed up an old billy cart with her sister!

Brianna & her partner Casper have been working at a ski lodge in Japan. Lots of time shovelling snow has been had!

She’s back in clinic next week and be mindful, she has been in the snow all summer so she may struggle with the Alice heat!

Gabriela and Bre covered the clinic over the summer break so that everyone else could enjoy some time off! We are all so grateful for them!

Matt and Steph enjoyed their first Christmas as a family of 3 in Victoria and braved the cold down south. It was great to have a break and know the clinic was in good hands!

NEW SERVICE ALERT! We are now offering personal training services with Evie!

We recognise that some people benefit from additional support alongside physiotherapy, particularly when managing injuries, returning to activity, or maintaining physical wellbeing. Care is guided by individual assessment and realistic, achievable goals. We are now offering a Free Personal Training Discovery Call!

Book a no-obligation discovery call to discuss your goals and whether personal training may be appropriate for you.

Thanks for reading and for being part of the Red Centre Health Focus community. Here’s to moving well, staying strong, and surviving the heat

Stay tuned for next months newsletter!

ICE BATHS: WHY THEY’RE A RECOVERY GAME-CHANGER
Whether you’re smashing PBs or just keeping active, post-run recovery matters — and our ice bath sessions are here to help you bounce back better.

✅ What the science says:
Cold-water immersion (like an ice bath) is one of the most studied recovery tools after tough
training. A 2023 systematic review found that cold water immersion can reduce muscle soreness and perceived fatigue after intense exercise, helping you feel more recovered sooner.

👍 How it works:
• Cold water can help reduce sensations of muscle soreness and perceived exertion after
exercise.
• Compared with passive rest or other methods, ice baths often show benefits for recovery measures like delayed onset muscle soreness and how you feel after a hard session.

💡 Note: Evidence isn’t uniform — some studies show mixed results depending on timing,
sport, and individual goals — but many athletes and coaches still value ice baths as part of a well-rounded recovery plan.

Try our ice bath service to:
✔ Soothe sore muscles
✔ Kickstart recovery
✔ Feel ready for your next session

Thinking about returning to exercise after injury or after having a baby?

Our Return to Exercise Assessment is designed to support you with a safe, evidence-informed plan tailored to your body, your goals, and where you’re at in your recovery.

Whether you’re coming back from an injury or navigating the postpartum period, proper assessment and planning can help guide your progress with confidence.

Why this matters

Research shows that exercise after childbirth is important for overall health, but the transition
back to activity can be challenging due to musculoskeletal changes, hormonal shifts, pelvic and
core adaptations, and changes in strength and movement patterns. These factors can affect
your ability to safely resume exercise without guidance.

Studies discuss how postpartum changes influence return to activity and highlight the importance of gradual, individualised progression and professional support.

For postpartum clients specifically, experts recommend a multidisciplinary, individualised approach to returning to sport or exercise that includes screening of core and pelvic floor function, progressive reloading of musculoskeletal structures, and monitoring of other physical factors as part of a structured return-to-exercise plan.

What we offer

Our Return to Exercise Assessment includes:
• Comprehensive movement and strength screening
• Individualised discussions of goals and current challenges
• Pain, strength, and mobility assessment relevant to your history
• A graded exercise plan tailored to your recovery stage
• Collaboration with your physiotherapist to ensure safety and continuity of care

This is especially helpful if you’re emerging from injury, returning after childbirth, or simply unsure how to resume exercise in a way that supports your long-term health.

Curious About Dry Needling?

Ever wondered why those tiny needles are creating such a buzz? Dry needling is a modern technique used by qualified practitioners to help manage muscle pain and tightness. Studies show it can decrease pain and improve muscle function in people with musculoskeletal
pain—especially in the short term.

Think of it as a way to “reset” tight spots, helping you move more freely or feel more comfortable
in daily activities. When combined with a tailored treatment plan, the benefits are even bigger!

At our clinic, dry needling is always done by experienced professionals, in line with the latest safety guidelines and best practice standards. Not sure if it’s right for you?
We’re always happy to answer your questions

Curious about the difference between infrared and traditional dry saunas? Here’s what the research says:

Infrared saunas use infrared light to directly heat your body at lower temperatures 45–60°C, making sessions more comfortable for many people. Clinical studies show
infrared saunas may help relieve pain, reduce symptoms in chronic fatigue syndrome and arthritis, and support overall wellbeing. Dry (traditional) saunas heat the air, raising room temperatures up to 85–100°C. Research links regular dry sauna use to improved heart health, reduced inflammation, enhanced performance, and lower risk for dementia and Alzheimer's.

Both types offer unique benefits, but effects may depend on your health and preferences. For further details, check out published studies in peer-reviewed journals:
●Hussain & Cohen (2018) – “Clinical Effects of Regular Dry Sauna Bathing”
(PMC5941775)
●Hussain et al. (2022) – “Infrared sauna as exercise-mimetic?” (PMID: 34954348)
●Patrick & Johnson (2021) – “Sauna use and healthspan” (S0531556521002916)

We chose to offer an infrared sauna to provide our community with a supportive, evidence-informed wellness option that may assist with pain relief.

Our infrared sauna is intended to complement, not replace, medical or physiotherapy care, and individual
responses may vary. We encourage clients to seek professional advice to determine whether infrared sauna use is appropriate for their individual needs.

Train hard? Recover harder with Normatec compression therapy! Whether you’re a pro athlete or train like one, these dynamic boots use pulsating air pressure to boost blood flow, flush out muscle waste, and speed up recovery so you can get back to your best faster.

Research shows Normatec is more effective than just sitting still at reducing blood lactate levels after intense exercise, which means less muscle fatigue and soreness. In a study with college athletes, using Normatec after sprinting helped clear lactate almost as well as active recovery like easy cycling — and way better than doing nothing. Plus, athletes at the US Olympic Training Center have reported noticeable improvements in range of motion and reduced muscle pain thanks to Normatec.

Whether you’re crushing workouts or just want to bounce back quicker, Normatec might be your secret weapon for recovery.
