April Pengart Campbell’s 35-year teaching journey is remarkable! From starting in silver bullet caravans in 1971 to graduating last week with a Cert IV in Teaching an Australian First Nation’s Language, she’s written songs in two languages, taken students to Sydney Conservatorium, translated the Bible, and led cultural exchanges with Meridan and Trinity Colleges. A proud role model, she says, “I am a very proud and happy person today and what means most to show my community and family it can be done.” Big thanks to her Elders, family, Ti Tree school, and Batchelor lecturers for guiding her 29-year study journey!

Today, one of our Utopa participants received their NDIS funded assistive technology devices. This lovely lady is vision impaired and now has a talking watch which helps her tell the time day and date and a device that tells her when she has filled her cup to the correct level. Thanks again to the fabulous Waltja team for getting her to our Alice Springs clinic for training and therapy.

It’s been a lovely week with some community kids coming in for therapy sessions.
All the dolly’s got to see the Doctor 😃! We did some shopping and cooking in the pretend kitchen and kicked some literacy goals with this little girl from the Barkly region. It’s always such a treat to have them and their families in the clinic. A big thank you to Waltja for being proactive in arranging these appointments.

Desert Therapy

Desert Therapy commenced services in January 2019. We are a local multidisciplinary practice aiming to provide a high-quality service in rural and remote Australia. Directors Kylie Adams and Fran Liepa bring a wealth of experience and local knowledge to our disciplines. Fran has lived in Alice Springs since 2013 and Kylie has lived and worked in the Northern Territory for over 15 years. We have built strong links with multiple stakeholders across the region and value the importance of these relationships. We acknowledge and respect the traditional owners both past, present and future and strive to deliver our services in a culturally sensitive way.
