Remembering this Fella!!

Its been just over 3 months since our Banjo passed. Leaving a permanent mark on our hearts, the residents who passed through our doors and all the staff here.

Banjo was a very unique animal and lived amongst the residents for over a decade. He knew who needed affection at the right time and always had space and a tail wag for new folks the way only a dog can.

We could swear we hear his little feet pattering about sometimes, and feel he is with us in spirit keeping an eye on the place....

We miss you Banjo! Rest in peace little fella!

Our 'Gulgihwen' (Change) program encourages our residents to find new healthy habits to replace old ways.

Every week they attend our partners at TAFE NSW Wollongbar learning new interests, skills on their way to find a new path.

We recently finished 4 weeks of horticulture, learning about plants, growth and sustainability.

Its going to be a hot one today.....

This stunning Magnolia is over 100 years old and provides shade in the recreation area. This tree stood on these grounds before Namatjira Haven was built here providing shade and peace and is a reminder that when things change around us, deep roots always stand the test of time!

Namatjira Haven is a place where Aboriginal men can come rest, recoup and reforge a new path through health and healing.

Our 'Gulgihwen' program has helped over 3000 men that have passed through our doors find a new path and peace.

We recently took part in Naidoc celebrations at our neighbours, Namabunda Farm.

Plenty of stalls and community on a beautiful day. Our residents with the help of Michael Turner and Ralph Close were the band for the day.

Pretty neat eh!

It`s with heavy and grateful hearts that we have had to say goodbye to Banjo, the healing dog here at Namatjira.

Banjo, passed away a few days ago at the ripe old age of 15. He has been the resident dog here Namatjira his whole life providing companionship, acceptance and support the only way a dog can to our staff and residents alike since he was a young fella.

He chose to come to us from a farm nearby, always with us and not going home. They generously let us keep him after it was clear where he wanted to be. Surrounded by men who needed him to help with their healing.

He always gave love to everyone and knew who needed it most.

Even in his dotage he did his rounds everyday bringing positivity, affection and keeping an eye out for snacks or anything pesky he might have a bark at.

He`s always been here and always will be in our hearts and minds.

He was an amazing animal, we love and will miss Banjo!

We recently did some wood work and here are some of the creations, pretty neat stuff....

Forging a new path in life is also about learning, growing and looking to change. The men who come to our 'Gulgihwen' program find that change and look to a new life.

Back in June we attended the opening of a new Aboriginal area at TAFE NSW Lismore. Namatjira Board member Aunty Jenny Smith was in attendance...

The men who come to Namatjira Haven for health and healing are also encouraged to find new skills, habits and interests to support 'Gulgihwen' in their lives and forge a new path in life.

Everyweek they attend TAFE NSW Wollongbar to learn, grow, participate and were so thankful for all the support, collaboration and partnership to help the community!
