A new report highlights the complex relationship between social media and teens’ mental health, showing both the risks and the potential challenges young people face online. 📊

The findings reflect what many educators and families see firsthand, social platforms can amplify connection and pressure, impacting mood, self esteem and stress levels in different ways. While not all young people are affected in the same way, the research reinforces the importance of talking about healthy digital habits, critical thinking and support seeking with students.

This topic is especially timely as changes to social media age restrictions are introduced, prompting educators and schools to think about how best to help young people navigate online spaces safely and confidently.

A new US based report from dives into adolescent boys and gambling, exploring when and why young people are exposed to betting, how marketing and online spaces influence behaviour, and the risks this presents for wellbeing. 📊

While the study is based in the United States, many of its insights are highly relevant for parents, educators and youth workers here too, especially as gambling content and ads become more visible online and through games and social platforms.

This research is a useful prompt to start conversations with young people about:
• how gambling is portrayed online
• what motivates young people to engage with it
• and how to recognise and respond if it becomes harmful

Meet Hamish! ✨

Hamish grew up on a farm in the Hunter Valley, where he discovered his love of acting through youth theatre, performing everywhere from barns and vineyards to galleries and playgrounds. Those early shows taught him to adapt, collaborate and trust the power of a story.

He later trained at NIDA in Stage and Screen Performance, developing skills in acting, movement and improvisation. Passionate about theatre, film and musical storytelling, Hamish loves how performance can shift perspectives, spark imagination and bring people together.

We’re excited to have him on the Brainstorm team in 2026! Hamish will be performing The Human Race & The Hurting Game in the Sydney region in Terms 1-3.
