Victoria faced extreme heat this week with forecasts of up to 45 °C. In these conditions, staying well hydrated isn’t just a comfort — it’s a safety practice.
Why hydration matters in extreme heat:
• Your body cools itself by sweating and circulating blood. When fluid and electrolytes are low, your system struggles to regulate temperature and stay focused.
• Even mild dehydration can reduce focus and reaction time by up to 25 % — something to think about whether you’re outdoors or working long shifts.
• Thirst is a late warning sign. By the time you feel thirsty, your body has already lost critical fluid.
How to hydrate effectively:
👉 Aim for ~200 mL every 15–20 minutes during high heat or physical work.
👉 Water alone is essential — but in long, sustained heat, electrolyte balance matters too. Electrolytes help maintain fluid balance, support nerve and muscle function, and prevent dangerous imbalances when you sweat heavily.
Body Armour + AquaSsage Tip:
💧 Pair regular water intake with an electrolyte solution like Body Armour’s specialist hydration products — especially if you’re outdoors, doing physical labour, or sweating a lot.
This helps replace not just water, but the minerals your body loses while cooling itself.
Stay safe and
• Hydrate before you feel thirsty
• Take shade & rest breaks
• Wear light, breathable clothing
• Monitor hydration cues like urine colour (pale is better than dark)
• Avoid dehydrating drinks like caffeine and alcohol
Your body does so much for you — don’t forget to keep it hydrated.
