Please join us on Fridays at 12noon. Gorgeous stretching, strengthening and toning mat work, balance and relaxation barre and mat class.

Inspired by Garuda method of exercise, designed by dancer and Pilates/ Yoga teacher, James de Silva, Garuda takes Pilates movement further introducing spiral lines. Lifting Technique

Protect your Spine if Affected by Osteoporosis or lumbar disc pain.

Take repeated spinal flexion out for loaded lifting tasks.

Here are a few simple tips for lifting at home, that can go a long way toward reducing vertebral fracture risk and maintaining independence.

Lift Smart, Protect Your Spine
When lifting laundry baskets, groceries, or garden tools, bend your hips and knees — not your back. Keep your spine straight and hold objects close to your body. Face what you lift to prevent twisting while lifting the load. This reduces strain on your spine and helps prevent vertebral fractures in the anterior ( front) vertebral body.

Here are some pictures of Susie demonstrating Incorrect and Correct spinal alignment and hip hinge action when lifting 7.5kg Sammy!

Strengthening Your Deep Back Muscles: One Key to Preventing Recurrence of Low Back Pain

Have you ever wondered about the muscles you can't see but are vital for a healthy back? We were inspired by a fascinating podcast featuring renowned Australian physiotherapist Professor Julie Hides, a leader in the field of deep back muscle research.

Back in the early days of using real-time ultrasound (RTUS) to image deep trunk muscles, Susie had the privilege of training with Julie. This cutting-edge technology allows us to see how your deepest core muscles are functioning in real time. We can show you exactly how these "anti-gravity" muscles are working—or not—and how they contribute to your spinal stability.

The key takeaways from this research-backed approach are:
- See Your Muscles in Action: We can use advanced assessment and live feedback tools to show you how your deep trunk abdominal and back muscles are working, giving you a clear visual of your body's support system.
- Targeted Exercises for Strength and to Prevent recurrence of pain: Specific, focused exercises are incredibly effective at rebuilding deep muscle function, especially after an injury, a period of bed rest, or a bout of back pain.
- Australian-Led Innovation: We are proud to base our practice on the world-class, evidence-based research of top Australian physiotherapists like Julie Hides, ensuring you receive the most effective care available.

This approach is about more than just treating pain—it's about building a strong, resilient foundation to prevent future issues.

*Why we do a Private Assessment Session First?*

The Onero program is a clinical intervention, not a generic gym class. To be effective and, most importantly, safe, it must be tailored to you as an individual. This initial assessment is our opportunity to understand your unique body, your health history, and your personal goals before you begin exercising in a group setting.

*What We Cover in Your Assessment*

- Overview of Your Health: We will discuss your osteoporosis or osteopenia diagnosis, and ask you to provide your most recent DEXA scan results. Let us know about other health conditions, such as an arthritic knee, a sore shoulder, or back pain. This ensures we can adapt the program perfectly to your needs.

- Establishing Your Baseline: We will guide you through a series of simple, functional tests to measure your current strength, mobility, and balance. This data will also contributes to the global research program at The Bone Clinic, helping to track the real-world effectiveness of Onero.

- Mastering the Fundamentals: This is an introduction to ensure you understand how the correct technique and movements should feel, so you can walk into your first class feeling prepared and capable.

- Setting Your Personal Goals: What does a stronger, healthier you look like? Do you want to be able to lift your groceries or your grandchildren with ease? Feel more stable and confident walking on uneven ground? Or simply to see improvements on your next bone scan? We’ll discover where to start with your weights programme, and discuss what matters most to you, so we can align your training with your personal life goals.

By the end of your Initial Assessment, you will be informed and fully prepared to begin your Onero journey toward stronger bones.
