This International Women’s Day, we’re taking time to reflect on the profound impact of women around us— in our workplaces, in our communities, and in the lives of people we support. At RFQ, women comprise 67% of our workforce. Each day, we are buoyed by their compassion, leadership, ideas, and commitment to shaping our culture.

What will you say to the wonderful women in your world today?

New Board Chair appointed

Kathi’s appointment as CEO coincides with a transition in Board leadership, with Chris Dougherty taking on the role of Board Chair. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Rhonda Chesmond, who completes her term as Board Chair after five years of dedicated service. During her tenure, Rhonda provided steady leadership and clarity of direction at a particularly challenging and complex time for the organisation. Her commitment to RFQ’s purpose has been unparallelled, and we are pleased that she will be staying on as Director.

Chris joined the RFQ Board last year, bringing a 20-year career in government and NFP sectors at the Board and Executive level including most recently Chief Executive of Epilepsy Queensland and Non-Executive Director and Committee Chair with Foodbank Queensland and True Relationships and Reproductive Health. As incoming Chair, Chris welcomed Kathi’s appointment, saying, “This leadership renewal represents more than change. It signals a deliberate focus on strengthening collaboration with our partners, deepening engagement with the communities we serve, and working alongside government and sector peers to deliver sustainable, high‑quality support.”

Under Kathi and Chris’s leadership, we look forward to strengthening RFQ’s impact across Queensland and beyond.

Introducing one of RFQ’s newest programs – Family & Friends

At RFQ, we recognise the often-unseen responsibilities carers carry every day to support the people they love. Supporting someone who has experienced a suicidal crisis or su***de attempt can have a profound impact on carers — emotionally, financially, and socially.

Our Family & Friends Program was created to build a strong, understanding community that values and supports those caring for someone through suicidal crisis.

This program offers lived experience peer support designed to help lighten the load for carers, including:

✨ One-on-one peer support
✨ Education workshops
✨ Peer-led support groups
✨ Referral pathways when needed
✨ Practical tools and resources
✨ Opportunities to build connection and belonging

You don’t have to do this alone. 💚

If you or someone you know could benefit from this support, reach out to learn more: https://rfq.com.au/services/family-and-friends/

Available in Wide Bay, North Burnett, Metro North, Toowoomba, Southern Downs, Western Downs, South Burnett, and West Moreton regions.

One of our RFQ team members joined more than 300 sector leaders at the Queensland Media Club to hear Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Tim Nicholls provide an update on Queensland’s public health reforms.

The Minister shared progress on the Hospital Rescue Plan, announced the upcoming Workforce Rescue Plan, and outlined a “build and fill” strategy to strengthen facilities and workforce capacity. It was a valuable opportunity to stay informed, connected and engaged in the future of health and wellbeing across Queensland.

We love hearing about how our services have improved the lives of our clients 🥰

We recently received some feedback from a client of The Way Back Support Service, which helps people rebuild following a su***de attempt or suicidal crisis.

"I'm only as strong as I am now because of your endless support, guidance, and belief in me. When others gave up on me, you didn't, and that is something that will stay with me forever."

64 flourishing artists in Wide Bay recently had the opportunity to participate in mental health art workshops, thanks to a grant from Social Shift Institute. Shelley (pictured) completed the workshop and proudly displayed her work in the final exhibition, having this to say about her experience:

"I leapt at the chance to be involved as I knew the benefits that art has on my emotional and mental state. I found the workshop stimulating and cathartic. I enjoyed interacting with other artists, realising that no matter our backgrounds and differences, we were all connected through our art. Through this experience, I have gained confidence, skills, and have noticed the impact on my general wellbeing."
