Yesterday we celebrated a milestone in our shared history with the Apollo Bay and District Health Foundation —20 years of giving Second Sails Op Shop a place to call home! After four decades of moving from place to place, a generous bequest enabled the Apollo Bay Health and District Foundation to secure Shop 5/22 Pascoe Street, where Second Sails Op Shop flourished. A big thank you to the Apollo Bay and District Health Foundation for their unwavering support of Second Sails Op Shop and our volunteers over the years.
As we close this chapter, we both look to the future health and wellbeing of our community and how we can continue to work together to support our community.

Often it’s the simplest activities that bring the biggest smiles. A huge thank‑you to Second Sails Op Shop for donating our new butter churner. Our residents have loved the hands‑on experience of making their own butter. The process takes only minutes and produces a richer, creamier flavour. We already have plenty of ideas for new flavour combinations to try. The smile on residents’ faces as they enjoyed the fruits of their hard work on their morning toast said it all.

We may not get many more gorgeous days on the beach like today for a little while, so it's always nice to see our Aged Care Residents out in the sunshine making the most of days like today, wriggling their toes in the sand and enjoying the spectacular place we are so lucky to call home.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

This week, GORH met with Board members from the Apollo Bay & District Health Foundation to celebrate our shared commitment to the health and wellbeing of our community. Their generous support has helped make so many initiatives possible — from the Food Pantry at Marrar Woorn to equipment at GymLab, a portable ultrasound at Apollo Bay Medical Centre, and an Oxilog Ventilator in Urgent Care, just to name a few. The support of the Apollo Bay & District Health Foundation has been instrumental for GORH and the ongoing wellbeing of our community. We’re incredibly grateful for their partnership and look forward to continuing this important work together.

Have you booked in to our Flu Vaccination clinic? Places are still available.

𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐥𝐮 𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - Appointments available from Tuesday 21st April at our Medical Centres in Apollo Bay and Lorne. Getting an annual flu vaccination boost each year helps prevent you from getting ill with influenza and limits the spread of the virus to others in the community, particularly those most vulnerable to infection. By getting the vaccine in April/May, you give your immune system the best chance to develop protection well ahead of peak flu season, which is usually in July/August.

GORH is running flu vaccination clinics. We encourage members of our community to contact our Medical Centres to book their appointments.

Not your average day at the office. Today, our CEO Brandon Howard spent the morning working alongside our wonderful team of Volunteers at Second Sails Op Shop. Demonstrating leadership isn’t just about strategy — it’s about showing up, pitching in, and staying connected to all aspects of the organisation. From sorting donations to chatting with customers, he experienced firsthand the incredible work our volunteers and staff do every day. Big thanks to everyone who keeps Second Sails Op Shop buzzing with purpose and supporting our great community.
