Today, International Transgender Day of Visibility, recognised annually on 31 March, celebrates pride, resilience, and achievements while raising awareness of discrimination. Itโ€™s a time to advocate for safety, dignity, and equal rights, especially in the face of increasing barriers and violence. Everyone in our community is encouraged to live openly, safely, and authentically.

Twenty women came together for an afternoon of selfโ€‘care, enjoying yoga with Russelle Beardon, followed by deeply restful Yoga Nidra and sound bowl healing with Nora Bone. It was a joy to see women feeling uplifted โ€” moving their bodies, connecting, and allowing themselves to truly rest.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us. Thank you to Russelle for your generosity and guidance, and to Nora for creating such a calming space for rest and reflection. We also extend our thanks to Second Sails Op Shop for sponsoring the event, and the Apollo Bay Bakery for providing a delicious afternoon tea.
A very successful and nourishing afternoon. Stay tuned for our Winter Solstice Retreat, proudly supported by Apollo Bay Neighbourhood House Marrar Woorn.

What a great day at the Deans Marsh Festival! Each year this is a social highlight on our calendar. Our dietitian Will Chow wowed the crowd with a simple flatbread recipe and a delicious chargrilled eggplant baba ganoush, sharing his love of nutritious food and big flavours. The Smoothie Bike was once again a crowd favourite, with all ages pedalling for a smoothie โ€” mango tango taking top spot as the preferred favourite flavour, followed closely by mixed berry! It was great to see so many engage with our grip strength challenge and discuss simple ways of making healthy improvements in their day-to-day lives!
Thanks to our health partner for the Smoothie Bike, and to our great team for a great day out in the community.

Today, Great Ocean Road Health proudly sponsored and attended the Apollo Bay and Otway District Agricultural Show โ€” a wonderful day celebrating community, fun, and showmanship.
Once again, the Smoothie Bike was a crowd favourite! It was fantastic to see people of all ages pedalling for a smoothie, while others took on the grip strength challenge with Exercise Physiologist Pat Hegarty. Our dietitian, Will Chow, had a great day cooking up fresh flatbreads and dips, sharing recipes, and showcasing his passion for tasty food, good nutrition, and creative flavour combinations.
Kids taking part in the Yellow Brick Road trail made a beeline for our stall to collect their banana โ€” with many choosing to add it straight into their smoothie. A big thank you to Foodworks for generously donating the bananas, and to our health partner for supplying the Smoothie Bike.
Thank you to our amazing team โ€” Corrina, Will, Pat, Jess, Kalvin and Brandon โ€” for making it such a great day out.

At GORH, we embrace different ways of thinking. Our strength as a team and as a community comes from our diversity and from creating environments where everyone can contribute in ways that work
best for them. Our staff and community have told us we want to continue to share learning and experiences of Neurodivergent people.
๐๐ž๐ฎ๐ซ๐จ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐–๐ž๐ž๐ค is a global initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions
about neurological differences. Neurodivergent refers to people who process information in ways
that differ from what is considered typical for their age. The aim of the week is to transform how
neurodivergent individuals are understood and supported; while recognising the many skills, strengths, and talents they bring to our communities.

We encourage our community to embrace this year's theme "From Awareness to Action," moving beyond simply understanding neurodiversity to implementing practical changes that create inclusive environments.

At Great Ocean Road Health we are currently developing our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and we want to make sure the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are at the centre of it. As part of this process, we are seeking feedback from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including Elders, community members, and healthcare consumers to ensure our RAP reflects genuine priorities and creates real, lasting change of our communities.
This is an opportunity to help shape how we work, care, and grow as an organisation. We are committed to listening and building a plan that goes beyond words on a page.

We are nine months into our Maggie Beer Foundation Trainer Mentor Program, and we can see and taste the differences made thanks to our great Mentor Michael who specialises in building menus in partnership with residents. Michael continues to impress us and motivate us with his passion for good nutritious and delicious food, his inspiring ideas for increasing choice options in our menu and how we present food, as well as his practical training approach.

In turn, Michael has been impressed with the level of care that we provide to our residents, across both our catering and care teams.

This 12-month program pairs aged care home kitchen teams with a qualified chef trainer who will mentor the team to serve flavourful, nutritious food and deliver an enhanced dining experience for residents in aged care homes.

Food is such an important part of the service provided in aged care, and we are always looking at how we can improve the dining experience.

The new skills and insights from the Training Mentor will be shared with Catering staff at our Apollo Bay campus, for the benefit of our Apollo Bay Aged Care Residents.

โ˜• A Lovely Afternoon at Sailors' Rest!
Our Apollo Bay Social Support Group have some great adventures. This week they enjoyed a wonderful outing to Sailors' Rest in Geelong, sharing warm conversation, beautiful views and plenty of laughs over a cup of coffee.
The group was delighted to welcome GORH CEO, Brandon Howard, who joined them for a relaxed chat and a cuppa.
Moments like these remind us how important it is to stay socially active, engaged, and connected with our community, especially as we get older.

A big thank you to everyone who came along. These simple moments together truly make a difference. ๐Ÿ’™
